So far i've gone through three controllers and at ?35 each time it's kind of expensive David Cracknell posted on 18 Apr 2010 Graham you know you can charge the controller you dont have to buy a new one everytime it runs out. lol :woot: :pinch:

When I saw the heading I wondered what on earth they would be complaining about, I think the life span of the battery charge is pretty good. But yeah, not knowing you can charge them /fail
Conjor
I can just see it now: (Customer to car salesman) It's a good controller car but my only negative point is the lifespan of the battery gas tank as you cannot replace it unlike the xbox 360 controller other car. So far i've gone through three controllers cars and at $50,000 each time it's kind of expensive.

Guest
The battery life is alright while playing games but I've noticed that my sixaxis controller will lose its charge over the space of a week without use. This is really annoying as I only get to play my playstation at weekends these days... so if I want to play I need to have the controller plugged into the ridiculously short charging cable, sitting a few inches from the TV. It's just a USB to mini USB cable, not proprietary in anyway. You can probably pickup a cheap one of these cables at a few metres off ebay. GameOverRob
To be fair the charging cable is ridiculously too short, I mean who actually wants to sit that near to the screen
Sethos
The overall quality of the thing isn't much to brag about either, my DS3 is broken despite rarely ever using it. Now I need to pay the price of a game just to use my PS3 again.
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted July 5, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted July 5, 2010 But to be fair again, it's not much effort to either buy a longer cable or a USB extension.
giantpotato
The guy simply means the battery's fail to hold a charge after a certain amount of time so he had to buy a new one. Batteries don't last forever, and like he mentioned in the xbox you can replace them, but in the PS3 you cannot. I think the fail here is everyone who made a comment afterwards not understanding what the guy said.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted July 5, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted July 5, 2010 But to be fair again, it's not much effort to either buy a longer cable or a USB extension. £1.56 for a 3m cable. I got one myself a long time ago. The guy simply means the battery's fail to hold a charge after a certain amount of time so he had to buy a new one. To go through 3 in 4 years due to charge isn't normal. Also the Dualshock 3 only came out in 2008 was it? (one with rumble) So that's actually 3 in 2 years. Hedon
But to be fair again, it's not much effort to either buy a longer cable or a USB extension. I prefer not having a 25 foot cable running into my home theater area from my media room. I have found the battery life of my sixaxis to be average. Generally, when it runs low, I just stop playing the game and let it charge over night. It would be nice if I could just swap out the battery when it's low.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 5, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 5, 2010 I don't game much on my PS3 (shocking I know), but even my DS3 runs out of battery really quickly just using it as a remote for movies etc. It's ridiculous.
Timmah339
The DS3 battery isn't that hard to swap out. Unscrew the controller's backing, unplug it, and plug the new one in.

Black Flash
Mini-USB cables are so abundant due to the fact that so many different electronic products use them, I didn't even need to look for a longer cable, I just pop in the ones from my camera, phone, or camcorder. Emn1ty
What irritates me most is that if you want to use a longer cable you must find one yourself. The cable should be equivalent in length to older wired controllers, not 1/3 that length as it is now. I sit less than three feet from my PS3 and it is almost too short for that even. The battery life is also very limited. I do rarely use it but it seems everytime I do I need to charge the controller.
Coldgunner
I always plug the controller in when not in use and use the remote, never have to charge it.
Emn1ty
I always plug the controller in when not in use and use the remote, never have to charge it. Not all PS3's come with a remote. Also, overcharging batteries can kill their lifespan.

Seriously doubt that, I've had one of my controllers since 2007 and it still charges fine. To go through 3 in 4 years due to charge isn't normal. Also the Dualshock 3 only came out in 2008 was it? (one with rumble) So that's actually 3 in 2 years. Then it just doesn't seem right. I've also had my controller since 2007 (Sixaxis, not Dualshock 3) and I haven't had to replace it due to the battery actually refusing to charge (although I don't use the controller much...I'm more of a Guitar Hero guy). Coldgunner
I don't leave them in 24/7, I do let them run down a bit. I urge everyone to get the remote though, batteries seemingly last ages and its damn handy for movies/music/xmb
