Anyone have BT Openworld as a Broadband ISP? ....

Recommended Posts

Congrats Radish,

firstly, i had bt openworld when it first came out, awful awful service and im glad your not getting them. Then i tried BT and they are pretty good however it has an amazing lack of options considering the price plus their tech support is useless which is frustrating considering the service frequently cut out due to problems with the area.

However I just switched to nildram [www.getadsl.co.uk]. Not only do you have access to comprehensive newsgroups as opposed to BT Internets censored list but you also get a backup dialup account and access to your own pop3 mail address. Plus, Nildram provide 2mb ADSL to pretty much every BT broadband exchange and its for a pretty good price (?58). I switched to them from BT and i only went without broadband for about 4 days.

Either way, enjoy your broadband m8:))

I went for the plain 'BT Broadband' empty, I don't need another e-mail address or webspace - it would be a load of hassle to notify everyone due to a new e-mail address :pinch:, I've also got a backup dialup account and a POP3 e-mail, webspace which goes up to 100mb if required, which should work on 'BT Broadband' :) ....

Then you should be pretty happy with BT Broaband, be careful of their 1gb daily download warnings though, its not strictly enforced but repeated downloading of over 1gb a day will result in a warning, i managed to received two before i left t;)m ;)

Well now that I'm on ADSL , can anyone recommend any tweaks to make it that little bit faster? .... e.g. small utilities, registry patches, things in XP Pro :) ....

Thanks  ....

Broadband is not a 'marketing term', it is a real technological term.

Broadband means that there are many signals going along a wire at once, while baseband means that there is only one. Narrowband is a marketing term made up by NTL.

Btw Radish, had the same kind of ADSL package you just got for the past year (had to drop it because i finished my MSc in Reading and now I am back in Athens). The worst speeds I ever got were 57kb/s, with 60-61 the best and the availability was excellent. I downloaded stuff all the time (especially the gf was downloading movies like crazy, watched them and then erased them from the HD) and I NEVER got a warning, not one. So i don't think you'll have a prob there. Enjoy your broadband mate :)

Ive got BTBB too, in the UK - the 1 gig a day limit, jeez, I never thought I would reach it.

Then of course another version of Linux comes out, over a few cd's of 650meg each, and I have to download them one a day. An absolute pain.

Thankfully, you can actually be 'always online' as long as you dont pass the 1gig a day limit - a great improvement to BTs other schemes where you get something like 150hrs a month online.

Hope you enjoy your quicker speeds Radish - I could never go back to dial up now, I have been spoilt too much !
