Soul Calibur 2 is going to be the best on....?

Recommended Posts

I've already pre-ordered Soul Calibur 2, but I'm not sure which console to get it on, considering I own all 3. (the store isn't making me decide which I want to get it on just yet) I know about the exclusive characters. Will the graphics be the best on Xbox or will it look just as good on GC and PS2? I'm more stuck between GC (Link exclusive character) and XBOX (Spawn exclusive character). Which do you all think will be the best?

I would have to agree with JoHideo. The Gamecube will have Link and the graphical difference will probably negligible, especially witht he Link factor.

The GameCube controllers are TERRIBLE, and I mean, pitifully bad, for use with fighting games. And to my knowledge, there is no adapter for GC to hook up a PS2 controller. And all of the GC controllers have to be in the same basic configuration as the basic Nintendo model. The XBOX controller is not as good as a PS2 controller, but for like $15 or less you can get an adapter to hook up lots of controller types, including PS2 and even Dreamcast controllers. I'd love to have Link as a character, but I own both XBOX and GC and I would not buy the game for the GC, the controllers are just SO BAD for fighting games, it is definately not worth ONE secret character. If anything, I'd buy one copy myself and not let my family know, and then get the GC one for Christmas or something, LOL. That's my opinion.

Soul Caliber 2 actually works pretty good on the GC because you can hold a and roll your thumb onto the other buttons. But still, it has the best bonus character, heihachi is absolutely crap, and if you don't like the GC controller, but a converter.

XBox supports 720p I think, if you own a hdtv you might want to consider getting the xbox version just for the high resolution, I'm not sure how much different are there, since I've never played any games at 720p. But the GC version have Link, I prefer Link more than Spawn, I still haven't decided yet either.

I imported the Xbox edition mainly because I feel more comfortable playing games of the fighting genre with a spaced button layout and the Xbox offers such a layout, although you could easily purchase an arcade stick for any of the three systems the game will be released on. I also happen to be blessed with a 52" HDTV-ready setup in our living room and I really wanted to take advantage of this with the most powerful offering of all three versions so i naturally leaned towards the Xbox which supports 720p display options. And to seal the deal, I have been a devoted Tod McFarlane fan for years now and I can't say I have much interest in either of the two exclusive characters for the Nintendo Gamecube nor the Playstation 2. There is truly no "best" edition, it is all boiled down to personal preferences.

Edit: I made a small typo. :p

Mate of mine has Jap version on GC and it awesome, GC controller is very easy to use with it ... I have to say Im gonna get the GC version when its available here ...

FYI I have seen it on the other platforms and I personally think the GC versin has the edge too, over the other versions ...

The thing to remember that I read in a review over here in the UK, was that most bonus / extra characters have moves and styles based on other Soul Caliber characters. I owned SC1 for the Dreamcast and most of the characters (OK - Nightmare and Siegfried were the same person ;) ) were duplicates.

This holds true as Link / Cassandra and Spawn / Astaroth are pretty much the same. Heihachi is the only one with his own battle 'engine'

Plus I am a PS2 / Tekken nut :p

Who cares about one secret character though? Surely you want the game that is technically the best in terms of controls, graphics etc. And IMO its not worth buying a PS2 to GC controller converter for just one game.

Well said slysy.

SC1 was the most accomplished fighter on any platform for a long time, its just a shame the DC didnt have the backing.

I say best on PS2 - heres hoping the months of having the game put back (due to Sony acquiring the Virtua Fighter license if I remember rightly) have been well spent on tweaking and fine tuning.

.. and there is soulcalibur.com for those who want to find out more about the game.

The most appealing thing (... just more of my ramblings) of the first game was the story-esque mode and the different battle types therein - and they should be back in the sequel too !

i preorded SCII for the GCN at gamestop.com

they had some special on it where i could get an artbook, demo disc and poster, and ofcourse, the game.

the total was about 55 bucks. i say its well worth it. :)

Link does own :D

Soul Calibur is a 3-button fighting game. The Cube has 3 main buttons. Soul Calibur is best with a joystick. The Cube uses a joystick as it's main form of control.

Seriously, the cube will be the best. While the D-Pad might be great for Virtua Fighter/Tekken, it's not for Soul Calibur. Any fan of the old DC one can tell you that. Also, Link is by far the coolest extra character for all the Nintendo nuts out there.
