Critique this mockup

Question

I know I've had a lot of these lately, but this one's for me now:

Please, only constructive criticism. I know I'm not the best designer, so don't rub it in. If you're going to insist that I start over or it looks like ****, please tell me why and what I can do to improve it. I can't believe that I had to say that :pinch:

The nav bar is not done, mostly because I'm too lazy . All the links in the footer will be at the top if I end up coding it. also, the grid isn't aligned I know

Also, the banner is just a placeholder, I found it and put it in because it looks similar to how I want mine to

I think it looks really good, I can't fault it whatsoever. Great job.

The Concise bit isn't in line with Clear and Clean, i assume this is just a missing tag

One thing but this will be down to navigation and i'm sure you've planned this - is will the contact + forums come under the Support link at the top? It may not be important but if they're going to be links a lot of people will click then they're a little out of the way.

One thing I was taught in terms of useability is think of yourself as the user and that you want to get to specific information that you want or a specific page in as few clicks as posible

It looks great, but as a user, especially if I am going to a site for the forums, I would look up top with the rest of the main items (Home, About, Support). Maybe take 'forums' and put it up top and not at the bottom right.

thanks a lot for the meaningful comment! :) it's greatly appreciated.

yes, the grid isn't lined up properly. I was too lazy. Also, the links in the footer will all be at the top. again, laziness

great suggestions, thanks for that ;)

I havent reviewed any websites in a long time however I happened to stumbled upon your thread and I have to say I was very impressed. Very Unique, easy to read, clean. Kept my attention. I actually read some of the content to see what the product actually was. I agree with moving forums into the top nav bar as another member has mentioned.

I am impressed, Keep it up and tweak it. Now if only I could get my web designers to do a unique job like that.

Just a few things:

  • The bottom gradient stops too abruptly.
  • As stated before, alignment.
  • The small radial gradient that comes out from the top right seems somewhat out of place.
  • Your menu and your banner have a different border colour than that of your content and your footer. The content and footer border colour blends with the blue background so the lighter border colour of the top section looks like it stops. (Refer to attachment if you don't understand)

I hope this helps!

Your choices of colour are fantastic, they work very well and more to the point the layout and style of your concept works perfectly. I like it a lot.

I really like the style and colours of this design. Is this just a photoshop mockup at the moment, or do you have it coded up? It'd be interesting to see if the 'softness' of the design changes much when viewed in a browser that doesn't have such good font anti-aliasing.

I have a slightly off-topic question though, where did you get the art for the monkey? I really like that graphical style and would love to use something of that style in some of my projects. mailchimp uses the exact same monkey graphic for one of their pages - you can see the page I mean in this review.

thanks for the feedback! and yep, this is just a photoshop mockup right now, but I plan on coding it over the weekend.

and as for the monkey, the banner is just a placeholder for now, I got it directly from mailchimp.com ;)
