Ubisoft confirms PS Move support for R.U.S.E., no Kinect intergration

Ubisoft's announced R.U.S.E. will be compatible with PlayStation Move.

Showing off the controller during a hands-on in London, the motion controller allows you to select units, construct buildings and have control over the camera.

Also mentioned, was when you select an area on the map, if you aim the controller down, you can zoom in on it. Pointing it up zooms the camera out.

However, for any 360 owners thinking of the same support with Kinect, bad news for you ? there isn't.

"I wasn't sure if it was just going to be a gadget, but it turns out it's a very cool and natural controller. We're very excited about it," producer Mathieu Girard told Eurogamer, where he also said the tech was added into the game "four or five weeks" ago.

Girard insisted further, though, the mouse and keyboard provide "the most efficient" experience there is for the title.

R.U.S.E. releases on September 7 and 17 in the US and UK, respectively, for PS3, 360 and PC.

We're still waiting on that July 15 "surprise".

No surprise there. Same thing happened with Tiger Woods too. MS is too late to make it for many of these releases.

Ha ha ha, that's good for Move but when people refuse to play RTS games with controllers I doubt having Move support will be a big factor. The closest developers have come to a decent controls scheme on a console was Halo Wars developed by a company known for awesome RTS games.

I think trying to shoehorn Kinect controls to something like an RTS would be the wrong move (no pun intended). Kinect needs more "from the ground up" control ideas, not "making it fit" ideas.

Move makes it like a mouse, so if anything we could see less gimped RTS games on consoles.

If not, PC all the way for RTS as usual.

I've said it before and I'll say it again Kinect is never going to work for any game with depth. It lacks precision.

:laugh::rofl::laugh:.

And a wand with a ball on top equals "precision"...

Correct, more like a mouse but in the end it will be nowhere near as precise and easy (using a two handed controller with any system will do that). I don't envision Wii like flailing but in heated complex situations, I just don't see it being easy to use. I applaud the effort but until I see it, I have my doubts.

At 5:40 a very basic RTS :p

Looks simple to select groups and move them.

You've probably seen that though, looks like R.U.S.E. may be the first RTS in our hands for impressions.

Well that's gotta hurt MS for not getting any of those games but power to Sony for catching the exclusives against the 360.

I hadn't seen that yet, that was surprising. Even at the zoomed out view he was able to select units fairly easily although the units were not that close. Unfortunately though he had to zoom in quite a bit to get any kind of precision even with fairly large units. R.U.S.E. definitely has a shot to bring the genre forward if implemented right though.

What I hate the most though is something that plagues all this motion control crap this generation, the constant jittering about of his cursor/selector due to very tiny unnoticeable movements in a human's hand/arm.

That's really really weird, because third-party devs had said a while ago they already had Kinec-tal kits a long time ago (maybe even last year or early this year?)

edit: started receiving kits last June (09)

Publishers, who received development kits from Microsoft in early June, used the opening of the Tokyo Game Show to voice their excitement about Project Natal.

The Move team hacked it into a PC to play Starcraft.

Still coming to the 360, just strictly using the gamepad.. which, I agree with the psots above that this really isn't a Kinect-type game, especially multi-platform.

Ubisoft already demoed RUSE on the MS Surface which beats a mouse and move and even kinect for any RTS game in my opinion.

Depth? It's never going to work with any game requiring more than a few buttons/key strokes! I'm sure that's the bigger issue.

Movement commands, selecting units opening menus, creating squads so on so forth would be very difficult without some kind of button press. Not to say it can't be done but I'd imagine no 3rd party is going to invest man power and hours in to a technology which isn't gathering much support from core gamers. Especially if the genre they are making never really sets the world alight when it comes to sales.

Move on the other hand might be a case of simplifying down the PC interface so it's more practical for a large TV.

Indeed weird, but it's obvious that Move was further along in development. Not to mention, Move is out in September, Kinect is November.

EA Sports has told VG247 that Tiger Woods 11 won't be supporting Natal thanks to launch "timing".

Speaking with us at an EA Sports GDC event this evening, a spokesperson told us that the reason the game would support the PS Motion Controller and MotionPlus but not Natal was purely down to when the title was being released.

We were told that those wanting Natal support will just have to wait for Tiger Woods 2012.

What's New: Though Move support was added to R.U.S.E. long after development was under way, it has been tightly integrated into the game's mechanics. The Move controller acts as a pointer, allowing you to highlight a group of troops, issue commands to them, or navigate menus in much the same way a mouse is used in PC real-time strategy games. Gestures have also been implemented; a swift swipe to right of the screen brings up the menu where you can select your troops with the pointer or via the analogue stick on the navigation controller. Zooming also gets the gesture treatment, where pushing toward the screen zooms into the map, while pulling backward zooms out. The light-up ball doesn't get left out of the action either; it turns red when you're hovering over enemy troops and green when selecting your own. Most commands can be performed using just the main controller, though Girard informed us that the navigation controller makes some commands easier to access, giving you quick shortcuts to the most frequently used ones.

I thought the color of the ball was based on the surroundings. What if you're wearing a red or green shirt, or your room is red or green?

It does change colour based on surroundings if necessary.

In the instance above though it's just changing colour to represent you hovering over an enemy/friendly, there's no interaction with the player/environment when it does that blink.gif

Just to follow up on your thread assumptions, from the above preview

What Impression the Game Made This Time: Though we weren't able to get hands-on time with the Move, from what we saw, it has been well integrated into the game. The gesture and pointer controls seem like a natural fit for an RTS, adding a level of fluidity that sometimes is lacking when using a standard pad. Zooming, menu, and swiping gestures all appeared to work accurately, without having to repeat motions to get commands to register. It remains to be seen how well the controls will work over long periods of play, particularly given the lengthy campaign matches that can take hours to complete. We asked Girard if Kinect support would be coming to the game, but sadly, it looks like Xbox 360 users will have to make do with the standard pad. He told us that it had been looked into, but given the issues Kinect has with players sitting down, it would be too tiring for them to stand up for the long periods of time matches can take.

I watched that video on the previous page but it just seems awkward trying to select units and draw paths on the screen - just look at how jittery everything is. To be honest I don't think anyone's nailed RTSes on consoles ever; the closest being the radial menus.

OK... but say it changes to green in front of your green shirt and then you move it to select another unit. Will the camera be able to see it in front of your green shirt?
