NeoRequest, some of you may have used it in the past. It's been available, but dormant for many. The novelty may still be valuable to the community. It is currently being stripped and re-worked.

The goals for this version are:

1. Simplified interface

2. Require Neowin membership for participation. (Guests can still browse)

3. Simplify the request process

4. Bring the software up to current standards.

5. Bring the generated images into one reliable location.

The very first request will be one I create and ask the community for help. I will post some teasers screen shots soon, so stay tuned.

Background: It will be coded in C#/ASP.NET with heavy use of jQuery and various jQuery plugins.

Bottom line: This should have been done years ago... Stay tuned and hopefully the service will still be of use to the community.

I didn't know what Neorequest was, so I searched for the original topic and found it. It can be found here. That said, I was still confused about what Neorequest was, so I'll copy and paste what I've found from the original NeoRequest site:

Back in 2004 JMann and Chorpeac decided that Neowin's forums lacked an efficient method for creating graphic requests and submitting the work. It was unacceptable to direct the users to a thread that consisted of 250+ pages. We decided to design and code this subsystem for Neowin we call, NeoRequest.

Sounds great, and very useful. I like the mockups, although the one thing that bugs me is the squashing of wide pictures in to the squares (first picture).

I'm looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

That original topic brings me back! :p

Way back in the fairly early days of Neowin, we used to have a Graphics Request thread which I used to help out on. The threads got so massive with all the requests, everyone just got confused and members requests got missed. We noticed that this was obviously an issue, so Chorpeac & myself came up with NeoRequest and launched it in August 2004.

What Chorpeac has come up with already (by himself I may add) is a good structure to start with, but over the next few weeks we will hopefully be improving and changing a few things. We will have a look at the squashed images, I suspect we can change it so it highlights only portions of it or something along those lines. (Y)

Will you be changing the credits for the Original name to mine :p ? ( DoNuTs was my account, which was banned eons ago - Admins can confirm )

How were you allowed back on to Neowin then? Promised them a big post count? :shiftyninja:

I'm sure we can update it!

Yeah it does I remember when we had that thread and random people like myself would pop in and create things. :D

@Sethos - sure thing, we will change the name. :)

@iHazCool - we're going to work with the header area some, we're thinking about a competition to come up with the Header Logo.

@Intrinsica - i'll have to work with the thumbnail generator. When a graphic is uploaded, it is supposed to come up with a 100x100 thumbnail...this is currently not perfected. :)
