Help Choosing The Right SDHC...

Recommended Posts

Vignesh    1

Hi, I just purchased the Samsung WB500, all I need know is a memory card.

But I'm a bit confused with the types, I know I need a SDHC card but I'm unsure about choosing the the card with the right class type.

I couldn't find the exact class type required for this camera but after some general reading found that a class 6 would be ok, but I'm still not sure.

Also I heard if you use a lower class card, there would be defects when recording video...

Any help on this guys?

Cheers.

Yes, in order to record HD video you're going to need a class 6 card.

Ok, I have a little doubt here.

I know that class 10=10mb/s , class 6=6mb/s.

I checked the bit rate of the video file recorded from my camera and it show 9815Kbps. Does this mean I need a class 10 card which is capable of writing to 10mb/s?

"SD Speed Class Ratings specify minimum sustained write speed for SDHC cards."

Sandisk class 6 extreme edition cards can go up to 20MB/s

I think you should be fine, I'll be getting one myself for the T2i.

I can record 720p on my D90 with a cheap standard sandisk SD card, what ever class that is...

To be honest any class 6 card will do, Trascend makes really cheap good ones.

I've recently bought this one - Bytestor 8GB Class 6 with card reader

You can also get the 16GB one for ?17ish - but its class 4, but trust me, class 4 is all you need, I have class 4 in my 1080 hd camera and it works perfectly fine, don't need to pay extra for nothing.

I get read write speeds of 20MB with class 4 - trust me you don't want to shell extra - plus the review on Amazon say quite a lot - especially more positive towards Bytestor.

Popular does not always mean better...
