Argote
This is a very interesting find U.S. government scientists have discovered three powerful antibodies, the strongest of which neutralizes 91% of HIV strains, more than any AIDS antibody yet discovered. Looking closely at the strongest antibody, they have detailed exactly what part of the virus it targets and how it attacks that site. Together with recent research into how to make animals produce antibodies, the new findings constitute a significant step toward an AIDS vaccine. The antibodies were discovered in the cells of a 60-year-old African-American gay man, known in the scientific literature as Donor 45, whose body made the antibodies naturally. Researchers screened 25 million of his cells to find 12 that produced the antibodies. Now the trick will be for scientists to develop a vaccine or other methods to make anyone's body produce them. bj55555
great news. hopefully they're able to make the vaccine. :) If it happens, people can thank Mr. Gates. :) Finally, there are experimental methods that employ tactics such as gene therapy. Nobel laureate David Baltimore, with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is working on one such approach. His team at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., has stitched genes that code for antibodies into a harmless virus, which they then inject into mice. The virus infects mouse cells, turning them into factories that produce the antibodies.

Ji@nBing
That's cool, but if sluts didn't have unprotected sex, this wouldn't be a problem in the first place. Charisma 1 Share

primexx
they've already found a static part on the virus, i wonder why you only hear about people touting it but not any actual treatment based on it... anyways this antibody is great news!
shakey
It is great news. So a few people are naturally immune to AIDS? Most likely there are a few... Amazing find, and hopefully this goes as we all want it to. Hopefully it is not only for the rich as well when , if it ever does, it comes out. Argote
It is great news. So a few people are naturally immune to AIDS? Yes, that had been known for a while. Inmune or very resistant (they still carry the disease IIRC), however these kind of people are extremely rare.

soonerproud
It is great news. So a few people are naturally immune to AIDS? It is rare, but yes a very small percentage of people are just immune to HIV and never develop AIDS or need HAART (HIV drug coctails).

Ji@nBing
Just out of curiosity, who are you referring to when you say "sluts"? People who sleep around. In case you were wondering, that means both males and females.

rawr_boy81
People who sleep around. In case you were wondering, that means both males and females. People generally speaking do not think before they act - if they did we wouldn't see people having more children than they can afford, they wouldn't go and get subprime mortgages that reset at a higher rate, nor would you see people make decisions to buy cars based on how it boosts their ego rather than on fuel economy, running costs and so forth. Slammers
Good news, this stuff used to get me excited when I first starting seeing it on here, but after realising that there are new found discoverys like this almost every month I tend not to get my hopes up. Joshie
That's cool, but if sluts didn't have unprotected sex, this wouldn't be a problem in the first place. FYI, STDs/STIs have been a problem for a very, very, VERY long time. They are not a result of the 20th century, nor are they a result of some sort of sexual revolution or new age approach to sexuality. There are stories of STDs going back as far as recorded history itself. In other words, they're sort of a part of the human condition, and moral superiority has clearly, in thousands of years, done jack to put a dent in their existence. So you can peer down your nose all you like, but I hope you're satisfied with an existence that does nothing to create a more positive future for mankind. /nothing personal
mokthraka
That's definitely good news :) About time all those people suffering with HIV might finally have a cure. you cant cure HIV, it is a virus, and as far as we know, you cannot cure a virus. only use shots to make you immune, but if you have it, you have it for good.
