Tech Star
Lookout should be on ?Wii 2? and ?Xbox 720? before PS4, says Sony bossSuccessors to the Wii and Xbox 360 are more likely to arrive before the release of the PlayStation 4, according to a top Sony exec. In an exclusive interview with Develop, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said he imagined either Nintendo or Microsoft will jump first to the next generation of consoles. Five years into the current console generation and the three big platform holders have decided against discussing future hardware. When asked why he thought this was, Yoshida said: ?Looking from the outside, it was Microsoft that released the first of this generation of consoles. Naturally, in my opinion, Microsoft will make the first move. ?Or, because Nintendo?s approach was not to upgrade much on its basic hardware ? Wii doesn?t even support HD resolution ? so they might be the first to move. ?Probably the watch should be on these companies, in my opinion. Because PS3 was later than Xbox, and is more powerful, so it has a longer lifespan.? News Source: Develop Sounds about right. Sony has lost a lot more than MS and Nintendo on their hardware that they need to keep this gen going for as long as they can. They barely just starting make a little profit on every PS3 sold and not a lot.
FlintyV
Microsoft getting their console onto the Market worked pretty well this generation for them.
Vandalsquad
Microsoft wont repeat the RROD mistake again, Sony need to cut there loses and jump at the same time Microsoft do or they will be behind from the get go like last time and unable to catch up. Unrealistic
?Probably the watch should be on these companies, in my opinion. Because PS3 was later than Xbox, and is more powerful, so it has a longer lifespan.? Yes, that's the reason. I'm sure Nintendo has something brewing (I personally think the Wii is terrible, but I also hated the Gamecube) that can hopefully be up my alley like the N64 was. Microsoft will be holding back for another 2-3 years as well though. It's still too early to tell, but Sony bosses really need to keep their mouths shut. Pong
Microsoft wont repeat the RROD mistake again. Of course they will, that's how Microsoft work. If the next xbox doesn't suffer some sort of design flaw I'll be shocked (as long as I'm not shocked by the xbox itself...). I'm expecting a new Xbox at E3 1012, I can't see it being next year since they've only just released the redesigned 360 and Natal is later this year, and by 1013 the 360 will be old hardware. I know they said that they're keeping the 360 on for another 5 (possibly less, I can't remember exactly) but I suspect they'll keep the 360 going for a couple of years after the release of the new model. name in use
Microsoft wont repeat the RROD mistake again Considering that they have removed the hardware components that display a RROD, you are correct sir. :)
Vice
I reckon Nintendo will jump first. As the Wii has remained completely unchanged since launch to my knowledge. The 360 just got a revamp and before that they released the Elite. So I think Nintendo with the Wii first maybe before E3 next year. Then I think Microsoft will announce a new 360 early 2012. Nicholas-c Veteran Posted July 9, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 9, 2010 Agree with Vice, Nintendo will be the first to go "Next-gen" not that the wii really matches the current generation anyway but a console with ok graphics would be nice. As for Sony vs MS i can't see either retiring their consoles within the next 3-4 years.

If the next xbox doesn't suffer some sort of design flaw I'll be shocked (as long as I'm not shocked by the xbox itself...). I dont see how you figure that, Microsoft hardware has always been solid. My first xbox has never skipped a beat once unlike my PS2. I dont think I have ever heard of the original xbox having any major problems at all. They rushed the 360 to beat Sony to the gate to move more numbers and get the upper hand. Which they achived, but at a great cost. They can't afford for it to happen again. I dont see a next gen wii being first out, they are still selling more then the others. But wouldnt be suprised to see a Wii HD or upgrade first like there DS line. But cant really be sure what Nintendo are planning since both other rivals are using motion sensing tech now aswell and will both support it out of the box next gen there wow selling and gimick point is gone. S00N3R FR3AK
Nintendo will be first as long as they can make a profit. Nintendo makes money and they won't put out a new console at a loss. Sony lost a crap load of money on the PS3 and they will be last to act for sure. Microsoft will see how many new consoles Kinect can sell, if its not enough I see them pushing a new console at E3 next year.

If the next xbox doesn't suffer some sort of design flaw I'll be shocked (as long as I'm not shocked by the xbox itself...). The original Xbox 1 was solid as a rock (as is most of Microsoft's hardware....though they can't sell their other hardware besides keyboards and mice). The original Xbox 360, not so much. I think they addressed that with the Jasper version for the most part, and now with the Xbox 360 S. I on the other hand am a total freak when it comes to buying new game consoles. If the PS4/Xbox 3/Wii 2 came out this fall, I would buy them all.

Vandalsquad
Sony still can't be making a loss on the sales of PS3s surely? Probly not anymore, but theres still all that R&D they still have to pay for and then still need a few more years for it to be worthwhile venutre. Alot longer then Microsoft needs now. +Anarkii Subscriber² Posted July 9, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted July 9, 2010 E3 showing in 2011 release date March 2012 It's kind of like predicting world cup scores between rivaling nations The reason I say no prototype until 2012 is simply because when you think about it, apart from say a new exterior design, a better more powerful DX11 videocard, and obviously more RAM and 1/2TB HD, what else can they add? The PS3 Slim is the creme of the crop hardware wise atm. I really can't see anything that would warrant a new machine right now.

Depends on Sony's economic strategy too, the PS3 was the most feature rich in specs but it didn't really grow on consumers. It also depends if this new hardware is a quantum leap in performance and energy efficiency or incremental.
Pharos
Sony is just ****ed because they know if they want to stay in the game, they HAVE to come out with a new next-gen console as well, since PS3 sales would go way down. And they have barely reached the break-even point  Poor Soney.

They could always skip a generation, consumers would rejoice of what it would be like if Sony released the PS4, 10 years later boom PS4 is faster than a blu-gene quantex

Hedon
Sony came out with the PS3 a year later, and they are doing very well. I don't see any reason for them to release a console sooner than they are ready to.
