PS3 vs XBOX360

Recommended Posts

the people who are on LIVE use allot of profanity when they speaking on the mic (could be the same on PSN but not likely since not allot of people own that bluetooth headset)

Oh, PSN has it too. Many people use their existing bluetooth headsets that they have with their cell phones, and they run rampant on PSN. Not as many as XBL of course, but still has the annoying kiddies.

Well we can be grateful for muting

If Halo brings all the boys to the yard then what title does PS3 bring?

The worst ones for me have been on KZ2 and Resistance 2 when using PSN.

I really think that if Sony included a ps3 USB headset with every box, things would be better. Even getting friends to join lobbies get to be a drag. I've heard stories of people using Live or Skype to communicate via PSN LOL

Indeed. Now, I haven't played MW2 on the PS3, but I imagine that is even worse than KZ2 and Resistance 2. laugh.gif

If you've seen how bad PC users have it, it's probably 2-3x worse.

I feel sorry for the competitive players out there.

It's obvious but I'm gonna bet that Sony will use bluetooth 4.0 headsets on the PS4 and bundle it in. I'm convinced Sony is going to go after MS's past strategy more than anything else and attempt to out do them.

We shall see for the time being.

my 2c:

ive had a PS3 for over 3yrs now. i still love it. for me, it has more exclusives than the 360.... way more. I play the Ratchet & Clank series, Uncharted 1 & 2, LBP, MGS4, etc... not to mention the Blu-ray support.

one thing that bothers me about the PS3 is the terrible wireless performance. Streaming, for me, is utterly impossible. I have mine hard-wired so i dont even think about it anymore.

i just bought a 360 about 3 weeks ago b/c it was so cheap. i can only find 2 exclusives that im dying to play - Alan Wake and Gears of War 2.

one thing i was very surprised about is the much better build quality of the PS3. the 360 feels very cheap and plastic-like. The controller, while sturdy, has very loose and cheap-feeling buttons. The console's plastic case feels very flimsy, almost like im going to break it any second. Not to mention the 360 is much noisier than the PS3 and has the gigantic power brick.

I prefer the PS3s interface MUCH more than the 360s. i cant figure out where to go easily on the 360. how do i get here? how do i do this?

again, my opinion.

I'd the exact same reaction when I used XMB the first time. None of it made sense to me. I guess it's just a matter of what you are used to. (I similarly get lost anytime I have to use a Nikon DSLR and think canon's just better!)

Here's another one that does that same thing. When playing SOCOM Confrontation with my friends for example, we use the Xbox Live party chat.

Is it possible that people's preference is on the platform they had first? I had the 360 before ps3, and the 360 is still my preference as far as multi-plat games and online experience

For some reason the "Enable Media Server" setting really messes up my whole network. Sometimes it messes up so much, I have to restart my cable modem (not my router, weird right?) I don't know why and I've googled it and it seems like a really rare case but I'm glad one or two other people have this problem.

Sometimes when I stream via PS3 media server, the whole connection just craps out and I have to restart my router. For some reason, the 360 doesn't give me the same problems

It's possible indeed. I have never owned a PS2. The only game I have even played on the PS2 is GT4 (a friend let me borrow their PS2 for a year..they had 2 of them) and I played the heck out of it. My gaming history is pretty much Atari, then many years later a Sega Genesis, then my next one was an Xbox, then Xbox 360, and finally a PS3. Some of it is comfort level too.

I've been tempted to buy a PS3, especially when I was waiting for my new Xbox 250GB S. To be honest what stopped me mostly was Fable III and the price of a PS3, but once I got the Xbox I was in love again. In the end it just comes down to whatever you like better, there is no "right" or "wrong" console, there is only "your" console.

That's weird. Replace Atari with Intellivision and that's my history... I find getting used to the PS3 controls for FPS is hard. Pressing the right stick to aim down the barrel in Killzone 2 just messes up my aim. Using the left trigger like almost every game on the 360 seems much more natural.

The PS3, for me, is a media center. I use it for Blu Ray mostly despite being a heavy gamer. Most of the exclusives don't interest me on the console. A more finite description of the difference between the systems is the online component. Even though PSN is free, I rarely use it. The lack of a standard headset makes the community a bit hard to break into. I have no friends and no way to communicate or make them unless I purchase a Bluetooth or USB headset. For any and all online games I usually turn to Live. This may be a matter of trust, or that most of my friends use it, but honestly for Live provides a far more stable, unified and simple online experience. Everything is integrated, easy to use and relatively fast. On the PSN, however, I could easily go without touching the online component.

My PS3 will never really be more than a light gaming and media center rig. I'll play the occasional RPG, Fighter or exclusive and leave everything else in terms of games to my 360 and PC.

I had an X-Box 360 first and think the PS3 is better, you get built in wireless (?50 for the 360) the joypad has a built in charger so you don't have to buy batteries and a charger (?20 on 360) you get blu ray player (?30 for hd-dvd on 360) you get free multiplayer (?40 a year on 360) the PS3 also has a better media centre on the 360 it's seriously limited as to what codecs you can use (Tversity is a good program for both PS3 and 360) Microsoft just charge you for everything on the 360 and it all adds up, game wise their pretty equal, PS3; Killzones, Metal Gear Solids, Uncharted, God of War. 360; Halos, Gears of War, Fables, Forzas.

Must be us "old timers" :)

The PS3 was my main "movie machine" because of the Blu-ray. When the 360 first introduced HD movies, 5mb was the only thing available for me in my area by Charter. No way was I really interested in sitting there waiting for a 10gb 1080p movie to download. Blu-ray was the HD way to go. Now that I am up at 25mb service, I predominantly go to XBL for movies, as it's much faster now. For the movies not available on XBL, I will look on PSN. If it's not on PSN either, then I either don't watch it, or I will grab a Blu-ray maybe once every 5-6 months now.

Both consoles have their uses, but make no mistake there is no way in hell PS3 online service is going to match Xbox live, I dont give a damn even if it is free. Basically the way I look at things I go for which ever console has the most features for the new game when it comes out, thats what makes me choose which console to get it on. For instance with Rock Band 2 Xbox gets all of the Rock Band Network songs first, so I go with that console for those kinds of games. Initially I only bought my ps3 for God of War 3 but I can see getting a few more titles on it.

Really? I can't say I've felt that way on either account. The PS3 has a better build on the console, thats for sure but I wouldn't call the Xbox flimsy. I always thought the XBox controller was better built too.

Probably just personal preferences there. If theres any system I hate the controls for its the Nintendo DS for instance.

You know what would I would like to see? I would like to see a way where you can join games with your friends on your friend list right from the XMB, AND to also see what games you have in common with each other. I know you can compare trophies and see what games they have already but this feature would be nice.
