Sony warns of potential

Everyone?s going to be doing this in three years.

Sony?s updated PlayStation?s terms and conditions to warn that playing 3D games or viewing 3D content in general might give you mental eyes and make you throw up.

The note also recommends that you don?t let children under the age of six view 3D material before consulting a doctor as their vision is ?still under development?.

Which all sounds highly convenient. So that?s buying a new TV, buying some glasses, throwing up everywhere, going blind and ruining the lives of your small children: 3D, here we come.

Here?s the new stuff:

?Some people may experience discomfort (such as eye strain, eye fatigue or nausea) while watching 3D video images or playing stereoscopic 3D games on 3D televisions. If you experience such discomfort, you should immediately discontinue use of your television until the discomfort subsides.

?SCEA recommends that all viewers take regular breaks while watching 3D video or playing stereoscopic 3D games. The length and frequency of necessary breaks may vary from person to person. Please take breaks that are long enough to allow any feelings of discomfort to subside. If symptoms persist, consult a doctor.

?The vision of young children (especially those under six years old) is still under development. SCEA recommends that you consult your doctor (such as a pediatrician or eye doctor) before allowing young children to watch 3D video images or play stereoscopic 3D games. Adults should supervise young children to ensure they follow the recommendations listed above.?

Not surprising really. All a matter of COYA, so they can head off lawsuits before anyone can even think of bringing them.

Anyone who gets eye fatigue or nausea from 3D needs to get their eyes checked. It is a symptom of eye problems you might not have known about.

Or if the framerate is unstable it can irritate the eyes. It may be from my astigmatism that I'm irritated by 3D movies and 3D glasses but honestly I can easily see people getting sick from them. Hell, just wear the glasses around for a couple hours without a 3D screen and that alone can give you a bit of nausea.

Indeed. It sounds similar to how current 2D games warn about the possibility of seizures with prolonged gameplay sessions.

That said, I'm not excited about 3D gaming in the least. I plan on buying a new TV when Gran Turismo 5 comes out, and it sure as hell won't be a 3DTV. Even if 3D technology is here to stay (and that's a pretty big "if" as far as I'm concerned), the technology still has a long way to go before it's truly worth investing in (unless you're loaded, in which case knock yourself out).

It's not the 3D itself, it's the flickering from the shutter glasses. That brief time the lens is black causes your pupils to dilate. Imagine that 60 times a second...

Wow, makes me want to go out and buy a 3D tv right now :p

:D

I'm sick of all this 3D crap already.

Yip...I am done with this crap! Especially I got royally screwed watching Toy Story 3! I mean, you could barely notice the damn 3D!
