Neo003
Well I'm 29 now and just wondering how gamers my age are balancing the love of the games and family time. Between work and other **** now I barely get any game time.

The Gunslinger
Lol...If you ever figure it out, let me know!!! I'm 28, and every year there seems to be less time available for gaming. I don't watch a lot of tv, so I use that time to play games. Other than that, I find portable gaming fills the gap a little.
Southern Patriot
I certainly helps when your wife (and kids) like gaming as much as you do. :)
40420_1437839287
Was a keen gamer for a long time, especially up to and including my uni years, but as time goes on, and work, family etc take more time gaming has taken a back seat to the point where, I now clas myself as the 'casual gamer'. Mobile games on my Desire etc are the way forward at the moment - stealing a moment here & there to update the ongoing game etc

MR_Candyman
I certainly helps when your wife (and kids) like gaming as much as you do. :) +1 My girlfriend who I have lived with over a year and a half now and I both game. We don't usually play the same games (she's a wow junkie, I'm not), but we both spend time gaming. Also, almost every saturday I get together with some friends and have a lan party. Chicane-UK Veteran Posted July 13, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 13, 2010 I'm nearing 30.. I don't game as much as I used to, really because I've just got a bit bored of it. But my partner loves watching crappy TV (reality TV shows, soaps, etc) most evenings after dinner and a bit of chatter we have an hour or two of her watching rubbish and I go geek on the net for a while :)
Nick H. Supervisor Posted July 13, 2010 Supervisor Share Posted July 13, 2010 I get home about 30 minutes before the rest of the family, so I normally start up my console then. Depending on how engrossed I get, I'll either turn it off when they return home or I'll continue for another 30 mins or so. Then I leave the TV to them, and if I feel like it then I'll play for a bit in the evening when they've gone to bed.

Cheshire Cat
I'm 27 and find I get easily 3-6 hours each evening/night for gaming  I have a standard 9-5 type job and my own place, though I am currently lacking in having a girl friend... I do find that paying bills can cause serious problems in keeping up with new releases though

treemonster
i'm 28 right now and have gamed less and less over the past year or two. partially i think it is the games themselves, new games just don't stand up to the old ones for fun and epic experiences, and old games got old years ago. i mostly fill my game time with shows and forums nowadays. although i'll play interesting new mmo's for a month or two. i don't have a wife or family to tie me down, so i really have no excuse. :p ppl i've played games with online have taken several approaches to balancing game time vs SO time. i've seen families try to play together, and go from a more hardcore gamer atmosphere in their vent to a nannyish family atmosphere, although this mostly resulted in some hearty lolz. a guy i met a clan leader in lineage 2 went from a hardcore 16 hour a day player to a more casual raider in wow, due to gf aggro. although he could never escape leadership roles since he was a great leader. he also bought a wii to play games socially with irl friends. and speaking of wii and irl social gaming, me and my friends used to pack the rockband kit up every weekend and play at each others' houses and drink for about a year. i was so sick of rockband at the end of it though. it did end up being good value for the cost though in terms of hours spent and the lolz we had together, despite the upfront costs involved. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted July 15, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted July 15, 2010 Not had much time to game recently due to everything that's been going on in my life, my gfs life, then family life. My backs about to break under pressure, and sadly even one of my favourite hobbies is beginning to become a chore more than a relaxing way to spend time. Going out exercising/running just now with my GF is doing it more for me. Oh, and coming on here and acting like a Mr Moan as well
Charisma Veteran Posted July 15, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 15, 2010 I'm a gamer and a little over the age of the general gamer demographic :D Oddly enough, the last few guys I dated weren't into gaming (or football, which I also enjoy). It's funny how many guys seem to want a girlfriend who's into those things, yet I always find the ones who don't
DavidM
I'm 43, the wife's 35 and our daughter is 2, my wife is a Mario and a Hidden Object Game junkie - we own every Nintendo product ever made from the NES to the Wii. She usually plays when our daughter goes to bed until she does, maybe 2 or 3 hours a night. Before the baby we had dual gaming rigs in the office and would play side by side - me on mine and her on hers. I've slowed as I've gotten older (I once played in a quake tournament for 36hr straight) and spend more time on my laptop surfing or playing poker online, maybe Halflife 2 or Portal every once in a while. DirtyLarry Veteran Posted July 15, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 15, 2010 I am 35 years old now, and do not get to game anywhere near what I got to game just 5 years ago. On a good week, I probably average anywhere from 6-10 hours for the entire week. Some weeks I am able to play 15 hours, some weeks I do not even play an hour, it is just the way it goes. One thing it does do however is make playing games that much more enjoyable, as when I do have the time to play, it is that much more fun and "special" so to speak. Also luckily for me, I have a wife who is fully understanding of the fact that gaming is my preferred hobby and method of entertainment, so if I ask her to go upstairs to watch TV in our bedroom, she will do that if I say it is because I really want to play a game. So I consider myself lucky to even get to play as much as I do now. I can say though it has definitely put things in perspective to me, and I definitely realize it is just a hobby, and I could care less what company does what, etc. etc. I just want to play good games when I can.
