Dev Null Zen
After this was announced at E3 in 2008, I thought it sounded great.....now that I have finally bought a PS3, I was wondering if people have any experience with it? It's still $50 around here, so I don't want to spend to get a damn paperweight.
EmpyreanUK
Two of my housemates bought it. I had a go on it and found it reasonably entertaining, and planned to buy it after my dissertation was finished (which was a few weeks off). By the time it had become sensible for me to buy it, though, they'd both become completely bored with it and traded it in. They both complained about the lack of maps and the relative ease with which you can finish the progression tree. I realise this is second hand experience, but it might be helpful for you :)
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 13, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 13, 2010 If you liked Battlefield 2 years ago you'll enjoy MAG.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted July 13, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 13, 2010 If you liked Battlefield 2 years ago you'll enjoy MAG. I am pretty sure you are saying that like it is a bad thing, but Battlefield 2 is still by far my favorite BF game, and that is well over 2 years ago. So that must mean MAG is not all that bad then. Anyway, since I actually played the game for a good 20 hours, I can say it is a good game. Not great, but damn good. And it will suck you in. The thing it is definitely not noob friendly, meaning until you rank up you will get frustrated, but ranking up is not that bad at all. If you want way more detail, take a look in this thread... On page 3, comment #33, I start talking about my experience with the game, and you will see it went from hate to like. Other members make really good observations and remarks as well. The reason I stopped playing MAG though, Battlefield Bad Company 2 came out, so if you are looking for an online FPS, yes, MAG is the PS3 exclusive, but BFBC2 is the one you will probably have more fun with, at least IMO, but MAG definitely is a good game. DPyro
I beta tested MAG for months and ended up adding a lot of friends just from that game. Get in a clan and the game is really fun. If your a lone gunman then you might not like it as much. I haven't bought the game yet, but if the price drops I might pick it up as no one online plays MW2 and I'd like to play with friends instead up being stuck with noobs. Hedon
MAG is a good, but not great game. I stopped playing it awhile back as I too got bored with it and moved on. MAG is good, in that, it feels somewhat like SOCOM, just on a broader scale, with dumbed down graphics (obviously done in order to support the 256 player count). This game relies heavily on teams working together, which is great (and much like Rush and Conquest in Battlefield 2), but again, PSN has so few people using mics, and text chat support is not ideal. It's really hard to work with a team unless you can fill a server with friends. Every time I would play, I would always make sure I met up with other forum members playing by setting up a time to all meet. I would not drop $50 on the game, but when it hits Platinum pricing of $29.99, I would jump on it.

MAG to me is just a console version of BF2 though (which already had a console port of course with MC :p)

But I personally do not count Modern Combat as a BF game, it was not bad by any means, but just did not live up to my expectations, but I give DICE a pass with it since it was the first console version.
Hedon
Battlefield 2 Modern Combat for the 360 was my first Battlefield game. I LOVED that game soooo much.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 14, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 14, 2010 Yeah I really enjoyed it too. It wasn't perfect by any means but it was old school FPS with class options. I actually enjoyed it so much though I bought it again for the 360 (I originally had it on the Xbox). I think I bought the PC version of BF2 three times as well
HeretikSaint
, it feels somewhat like SOCOM Really? I'm a hardcore SOCOM player (since the very first one) and I thought it felt nothing like SOCOM. Although M.A.G. was created by the original creators of SOCOM (in which I was expecting it to feel like SOCOM), I felt no SOCOM resemblance other than the voice chat and team work. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just didn't feel that way. As for M.A.G., I found it to be a pretty good game. I rented it from Gamefly. I honestly do not care for FPS. I do, however, thoroughly enjoy TPS such as SOCOM. With that being said, I still enjoyed playing M.A.G. The leveling aspect as well as the faction choices and the spec-trees gave it an interesting new aspect rather than just entering a battlefield with no other reason than to kill people. You have the choice of being a medic, an engineer, a sniper, etc. I just felt it added some spark to an already (what I feel to be) over-done genre. It's definitely innovative but of course, it's all personal preference.
