treemonster
too console centric for my tastes. i didn't take notes or anything, but there were points when i was like "quake" or "mouse" or w/e. :p
Hedon
I will have to wait to get home to watch a 10 minute video without interruption.

Few things that stuck out to me: What the **** at the jump from the Game Boy to iPhone? Really? The Game Boy paved the way for the iPhone? Really Shane? What a ######! Could think of a few better examples to put on that list. Evolution from dialing in to each others modems to connecting to servers? Home broadband? Pioneering work Carmack did with 3D engines? But the guys over at Gametrailers are very console centric.

Boxster17
A few seemed lower than expected, a couple others a bit higher, but couldn't really disagree with most of them. Interesting watch none the less. By the way if that video's not working I just watched it here. EDIT: Yeah it's definitely very console centric like the others mentioned. If they had included PC gaming in any form I'd think something like Steam is a lot more deserving than Xbox Live.

Lovell
9. It's way to early to call WII a milestone or any of the motion controllers 8. Analog stick and? the mouse does what the analog stick does and better how is it the reason behind the growth of the video game industry? all the best games came out on the PC; the PC built the games and all of the genres; mario 64? so you can now move in 3d congrats you caught up to the PC. 7. X-Box live really? 4. Optical Media, Sega? PCs? not the Playstation. 3. Giving all the credit of 3d to Nintendo and Sony :omg: The problem with the list is a lot of the stuff isn't new it's just new for the consoles and that would be fine if they didn't then go and give them all the credit, and even ignoring that a lot of the stuff in this video is just wrong, it seems like the person who made it hasn't played on anything other than a PS, N64 and X-box. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/top-10-gt-countdown/701656
Xerino
The sega saturn did the analog stick before nintendo and sony did, remember nights into dreams? came bundled with that controller.
Massiveterra
The video was made in context to mainstream success, hence the lack of PC gaming. But I did see Doom in there And yes, Wii AND Gameboy definitely has a reason to be there.

DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 15, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted July 15, 2010 Really? I wouldn't say so. It didn't take off until HL2. Either way, XBL still came first which is why it's a milestone

No, it didn't. It came out to patch Valve games, the first of which was CS 1.6. And in fact they even asked MS to team up for anti-piracy methods/DD and MS denied the invite to continue with XBL. Seeing as you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, I'm not even going to bother going over this with you.

Dashel
Quite console-centric but generally holds up. A more PC centric list would also contain: Mods and community content Mouselook (Keyboard + Mouse) GUI interface instead of text Voice communication 'Massive' multiplayer Digital Downloads and no media requirements Online communities/Clans (HEAT/MSZone/WON) High resolutions Force feedback XBL should only be credited with tracking/achievements. Lovell
Difference is neither the mouse or optical media was designed for gaming. And Xbox Live came before Steam. Irrelevant, mice are still a lot better than analog sticks you can't have an analog stick on a list of milestones for been able to catch up to a mouse doesn't seem right that's one of my main gripes about the list they consider consoles catching up to the pc as a milestone in gaming rather than a milestone for consoles, and I'm not sure what your point is about optical media?
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 15, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted July 15, 2010 It's not irrelevant because neither mice nor optical media was created for the purpose of gaming. The industry simply followed other media in that direction. Whereas services like Xbox Live was the reason competitors created Steam, PSN and Wii online. It's like trying to give credit to the PC gaming scene for the modem and online gaming. Same goes for a lot of the things Dashel mentions in his list. PC gaming gave birth to GUI's now?
