Redesigned site!

Question

Ok so I was planning on redoing my site anyway using a different theme but the DB failed and killed the site so had no choice but to do it a little sooner.

I have made a new logo and edited a theme I found (re-skinned images, custom menus, css re styled) but just need you guys input into things that dont work and changes you think I need to do!

ooo and I also re-skinned the email login page!

Hey,

I am not sure what the old design looked like but the new design looks very empty their is lots of white space and not much seperating the posts up it needs a little bit more structure if you ask me, also the background image is massive could this not be tiled?

I like it!

But as Lilrichie said above there is a lot of white space. Unless you're planning to actually fill the right side column with content (the area under search) then it seems pointless to keep it there.

Loving those "Share and Enjoy" buttons btw, Are they your own design?

See this is why I come to neowin - informative and helpful post's!

The side bar is widget enabled so I will be adding widigits to it once I figure out which ones are useful (suggestions?) as for the background I cant believe I did not think of that ! I will edit it to make it into a smaller tile tonight.

if you want to take a look at my blog and see what i have in my sidebar feel free (here) it is very plain and just focuses mainly on the content.

Once the background is smaller it should increase loading times by a couple of seconds as that is the very last thing that loads for me, also maybe add a line break or stop the menu down a couple of pixels from the logo, it looks a bit squished unless you wanted it to look like it was sitting on the menu bar.

Hope this helps a little

Not bad, nice and clean and should look good once the sidebar is set up to fill the space.

The only thing I'm not feeling is the wooden background - it might just be me but I prefer backgrounds to be gradients, noise or subtle patterns.

Nice work though, look forward to seeing it with the space filled in.

PS: I would also increase the line height and the space between paragraphs to make it a bit nicer to read.

I'd also add the ie6nomore plugin so IE6 users get prompted that presentation issues are down to them using an old browser, rather than having them think your site is broken.
