+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted July 14, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted July 14, 2010 Continuing our goal to provide the most content-rich entertainment platform in the living room to the PlayStation community, I'm excited to announce that beginning today, the preview of Hulu Plus is available on the PlayStation 3 in the U.S., the first and only console with dedicated gaming functionality that will offer Hulu Plus this year.If you don't know, Hulu Plus is Hulu's new subscription service offering full current season runs of hit TV programs from ABC, FOX and NBC, adding even more premium video content to the more than 23,000 movies and TV episodes already available on the PlayStation Store. So how do you get Hulu Plus? Well, starting today, a select group of PlayStation Plus subscribers can gain access to a preview version of Hulu Plus. All PlayStation Plus subscribers may download the free Hulu Plus application from the PlayStation Store and, within it, request an invitation to the exclusive preview. If you are accepted, you can access Hulu Plus for an additional $9.99 per month (the fee that Hulu is charging for all Hulu Plus subscribers) and start enjoying its library of television shows and movies from nearly 150 leading content companies streamed on demand in HD. As Hulu Plus becomes generally available in the coming months, all PlayStation 3 users in the United States will be able to download and subscribe to the full Hulu Plus service and it will also be available on wide range of Sony Electronics Internet-connected entertainment devices, including select BRAVIA TVs and Blu-ray Disc players. Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted July 14, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 14, 2010 I just cannot see spending $10 a month for a service if they are going to keep the advertisements in it. So what if you get to watch the content before other people just wait and you can watch it for free on a PC however, its ridiculous that you have to pay a fee and still see ads. (then again people pay for cable, and satellite television which contains ads as well so I'm not sure. perhaps its just me.
Bhav
They say "this year", so that leaves the door open for Xbox 360 in 2011 or beyond. And yeah, ads + fees?!
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted July 15, 2010 Author Subscriber² Share Posted July 15, 2010 Video of it in action Apparently if you get invited into the test preview you can still muck around with some free content.
Richard Hammond
If they brought this to the UK at under £10 a month (not just for PS3) and i had access to most complete TV seasons/series list under the sun id gladly pay it. I pay over £30 per single series of TV shows and then there is the trade off between size and quality i have to rip and encode these and then there is a cost for CPU encoding time, for more HDD space, electricity keeping a multi HDD nas running. Nothing beats owning physical media but for convenience sake and massive selection of choice i would pay today if it were available.
Massiveterra
No cable shows, no care what's the point of paying for free network shows?
Richard Hammond
Unlimited on demand access to as many TV shows as you want? Not paying $30+ per Season of TV show or $100s per Series?
Hedon
My link Join me as I take a brief look at the Hulu Plus app running on the PlayStation 3, developing a killer craving for bite-sized candy in the process. As a temporary PlayStation Plus member, I am able to download the Hulu Plus app from the PlayStation Store. Since I am not a member of the preview, however, I am only able to view a small selection of the content, enough to give me a taste for the service. So far it doesn't taste so good, unlike Skittles, which are delicious and come in a wide variety of flavors. SD streaming didn't seem too bad, though the quality is somewhat less than I am used to from Netflix running on the same PlayStation 3. HD is rather attractive, but my wireless connection struggled to keep up, causing frequent frustrating pauses as that episode of Grey's Anatomy continued to play. I set the video to SD and came in here to write this post. Minutes later I heard, "Okay, that's it, f*** you, Hulu!" coming from the other room. My fiancée is a bit short on patience when it comes to streaming video. So yes, I'm sticking to Netflix for now. It's safer that way. Looks like it needs some work yet. Icarus ^i^
Sounds good, but suspect it's another service that will take 2 years (if ever) to trickle out to territories other than US or UK.. there's still not a word about netflix or even the old vidstore being launched around here :p on a related note, is it the same problem on 360? Is their netflix available in EU?
