Lovell
To sum it up for people who can't stand the voice, games have crap stories, it's hard to make a game with a good story, writing for an interactive game is different to writing for a film or book, it's easier and faster to push out an FPS with no story, games with good stories don't usually sell well or not as well as dumb FPS thus publishers aren't interested. He has a point and it's a shame.

Sethos
Ah yes, another 'voice of reason' trying to save the gaming world from a terrible faith and we can all sit behind our monitors nodding. Seriously, most people with an IQ above 30 could easily pinpoint some major issues with the game scene today, why some games turn out like they do, why some games lack that finishing touch and why true story games are on the decline. Don't need some crappy paint animation job with a dreadful voice to tell me.
Emn1ty
Don't need some crappy paint animation job with a dreadful voice to tell me. Its a consolidation of ideas and understanding that makes these good videos. It is the fact that while many can find the issues, not all of them can connect the dots in a sensible way. These videos do that, and do it well. And that's without all the comedic relief/pop-culture/trashy comments about other games, people, etc. such as Zero-Punctuation (I hate biased people, and while he isn't necessarily biased he is blatantly inconsiderate and annoying). Yes, it's a good way to serve people with less insight some information and some connected thoughts. For the rest of us, it's just a bad video with an annoying voice trying to tell us what we already know. ZP just does short reviews of games that aren't meant to be taken seriously. Some joker that tries to be serious in some joker videos is a failed concept. So no, I won't embrace this crusted turd.

That's your opinion, but honestly this guy did a good job and doesn't deserve the criticism your giving him. Unless you feel you could do better. Yes he does, as that's my opinion like you so beautifully pointed out (Y) Oh and of course you had to use the desperation argument, "Can you do better".
Boz
He has a point and it's a shame. Well Call of Duty 4 was pretty damn good.. so was Uncharted 2.. so it can be done and both games have made a bucket load of money.. The problem is that publishers don't want to shell out the money for a story.. decent writers (hollywood style) are not cheap and these guys don't find it acceptible to pay them so they go and hire a 2 bit hack that can write a postcard to write a story for a few thousand bucks. That's the real reason IMO.. not that it's so hard.. we've seen games that prove this very point. Most games with great stories have become awesome blockbuster hits in games and made hundreds of millions of dollars (God of War series, Uncharted series, Gears of War, Halo, Shadow of Colossus, Call of Duty series and even MW2etc etc).. Actually if you look at it, I don't know any game that didn't have a great story that evoked emotion and was just there for the gameplay that actually made a lot of money. It's pre-requisite for a great selling game to have a great story.. One won't go without the other.

Boz
MW2 says "Hi" :p Mw2 story was not bad.. it was just rushed in production.. I still liked the single player.. A LOT and I give story an absolute priority in the game. MW2 was a cinematic experience with some twist and turns. It had a good script but they didn't tell it properly by cutting out video segments that would tie the story together in a more appropriate way. I still remember some very unbelievable moments (like the fight in front of the white house and the helicopter crash when everything goes dark after EMP) etc etc.. I can't say MW2 single player experience wasn't epic.. it was.. in so many ways.

MW2 had a few decent cinematic events but the rest of the story was ###### up, all over the place and very, very poorly written and the director in charge of putting it all together was even worse, amazingly. It's the gameplay of MW2 that keeps it afloat, crowbar it into any other game that isn't as snappy and fun to play, the story would be burned on the stake. ( Actually, it already was most places but for argument sake ). MW2 was all about MP and Spec ops, SP was forgotten in no time by most people. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 18, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 18, 2010 ^ that's been my opinion of the entire CoD franchise since it came out, there is no great story in any of them. It wasn't even until CoD4 where they tried to connect the player to characters, even then I couldn't give a damn about them. CoD4/MW2 shouldn't be considered a great piece of writing in any shape or form, no matter what though. Either that or you've really not experienced a great movie or novel before. I can't say MW2 single player experience wasn't epic.. it was.. in so many ways. Rushed? You're aware that one of the developers, I think it was a producer, said the story is put in after the game is developed. It wasn't even a story. It was a Hollywood narrative which has been attacked with a chainsaw by management to recreate what they had done in CoD4. I've seen smaller black holes in comparison to the plot holes in MW2. If people really think MW2 had a decent story they need to read a book or watch a decent film. It's the gameplay of MW2 that keeps it afloat, crowbar it into any other game that isn't as snappy and fun to play, the story would be burned on the stake. I agree if this was put out by THQ or a, dare I say it, less popular developer it would have been ripped a new one.
