Ironman273
I have what I think is a pretty odd problem. I'll try to recreate what I did here. I was watching a video that I was streaming over my network. I had just turned the PS3 on so I don't think heat would be an issue. The screen started flickering off ever couple seconds. Most of the time it looked like it would flicker with snow, a couple of times it would flicker to black. My receiver would also change the display where it tells me the audio from Digital to Stereo when it flickered. I thought it might've been a video problem. I turned off the video and was back in the dashboard while I checked the HDMI cable to see if it had come loose. It kept flickering even after I reseated the HDMI on both sides. Then my friend that was there wanted to see Killzone 2 so I put it in. It played the whole time (maybe 10 minutes) with no flickering. Back in the dashboard the flickering started again. Put in Uncharted 2 and again the flickering stopped. So it appears like it only happens in the dashboard, not while in a game. I won't get to this until tomorrow, but what should I try to troubleshoot?
Unrealistic
It seems as if it's a handshake issue with HDMI. Try a different cable and if that doesn't fix it, try a different input on your TV. It's some sort of hardware issue (either TV, cable or PS3). Either that, or the Slim is jealous of your Xbox.

I thought it might be the cable too, but it's weird that it only happens on the dashboard. During gameplay there's no problem whatsoever. I would think if it's a cable or input problem that gameplay could be affected. Unless it's something with the resolution. I know I have my dashboard at 1080p. What resolution do the games run at? I have my consoles going to my receiver with HDMI and then my receiver goes to the TV. The Xbox is definitely working with no problems.
+Anarkii Subscriber² Posted July 18, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted July 18, 2010 Most run at 720p...
Ironman273
Most run at 720p... That's a lie! I was told all games would run in dual monitor 1080p at 60fps! Oops. Sorry . Knee-jerk reaction. :p
sn00pie
My PS3 would flicker and shut off before it gave me the YLOD.

Either that or the cable is going bad and can't handle the bandwidth for 1080p.

Also, the problem presents itself at the receiver, which is before the signal gets to the TV. Let me change out the cable and see what happens. Thanks for all the help. Hedon
Also see if you have any issues by running from the TV to the PS3 direct and bypassing your receiver.
