  1. 1. Which is best for Social Networking and E-Commerce

Question

Hey all,

Wanted some opinions on this.

I understand that there are many factors in deciding which one is best, but im looking in terms of using one of these as a base for a social network with E-Commerce capabilities.

Im relatively good at PHP and MySQL, but do not know OOP.

What would you suggest for me and why?

Thanks in advanced

WordPress + BuddyPress + WP E-Commerce Plugin = Social E-Commerce.

Although I've used various other open source social scripts, while they got the job done, I actually preferred BuddyPress over anything else. I suppose this also had to do with the fact that I enjoyed having Wordpress managing all of it. It was/is awesome.

Thanks for the reply

I will look into that setup :D never thought of using WordPress for a social network.

Thanks :D

Plus 1 on the wordpress comment.

At this point, wordpress is so insanely polished, and has such a huge community of plugin developers that it can be twisted to do anything. I use it as my main CMS of choice for web creation, even when I'm not doing blog websites.

That and much like Neowin, the community is pretty awesome.

Also, the wordpress 3.0 backend is most awesome.

I use both Joomla and Wordpress.

Joomla was my first CMS I used so you could say I'm somewhat loyal to Joomla. I use it normally for normal website design and then I use Wordpress for content sites such as blogs etc. I agree with GeekTwo, the WP 3.0 backend is really neat and with the multitude of plugins available you can almost do anything with Wordpress sites.

And the best part of it all, I own Artisteer, which I use to create good looking templates, but nowadays it takes too much time and when designing a site for a client, I normally buy templates. Artisteer functions are somewhat limited. When browsing the internet, it is very easy to spot Artisteer sites.
