~Bull}{Dog~
it doesnt matter what number you put in there, different modems/isps have a favorite they will give you that looks right and works... they can range from stuff like 0 to 0.38, a mixture of your VPI and VCI settings to stuff like p0,38 or even just adsl.. it really wont make a difference. what actually happens when you try to connect? and which modem/os/etc are you using? MxxCon
when you use pppoe to connect you don't need to enter anything in the phone number box since you are not dialing anywhere. your connection is ALWAYS ON. you just use dialup applet to AUTHENTICATE with your isp's servers. (and VPI/VCI have nothing to do with this  )
Darkness2k
I heard 6 is a good number to use for BT ADSL users... I don't need to enter a number for my router to connect to anything though :) (seeing as the router has no phone number field)
~Bull}{Dog~
whe you use PPPoE to connect you wouldnt be asked for a number, but in the UK you will be using PPPoATM with practically all ADSL connections. Its possible he is in europe though, then he wont need a dialup number as he will most probably be using PPPoE. The thing I said about the VPI and VCI was just where the UK ISPs get their dialup numbers from, I didnt mean that they would have something to do with the phone number directly :p If BT would just get their arse in gear and convert to PPPoE like they have been saying for so long we wouldnt have this problem anyway ;)
