GT5

One of the new features in Gran Turismo 5 I've personally been looking forward to is head-tracking. Unless you've got the luxury of playing racing games on three screens, the ability to look into and through the turns – just as you should do in real life – provides a considerably more immersive experience. GT5's head-tracking was first shown in limited action at E3 2010, but it was reportedly difficult to use because of surrounding conditions the PlayStation Eye had to deal with. According to a recent article from the Official PlayStation Magazine, however, the functionality isn't perfect. Quoting the magazine from this article at CVG.com:

"Face-tracking using the PS Eye works on the 200 cars with cockpits and lets you look around by tilting your face away fro the screen, but the early demo we played left us underwhelmed. Head-tracking has been working well on PC for years using IR camera and reference makers but PS Eye is a simpler camera and Gran Turismo applies a digital interpretation to an analogue movement. A slight glance to the left or right is translated by the game after a considerable delay as a full 90-degree crane of your neck. Hopefully Polyphony can smooth things out before release."

Sounds more like a limitation of the dated PS Eye than it is game or console related.

I dont understand the need for head tracking, I mean you move your head but have to keep your eyes fixed on screen.

Live For Speed implimented 2 buttons (1 for left, 1 for right) that you pressed to give you 45deg head turn in game this was more user friendly.

I love my PS3, I love Gran Turismo, but the longer it takes, the longer I regret not grabbing a 360 and playing Forza 3 :(

Yeah I would rather have the Right stick to change in-game head movement, using the L2&R2 for accel/break and l1/r1 gear change (maybe).

In prolog you could use the L2/R2 instead of R-Stick...which frees it up. After all not everyone had the EYE :)

Edit: Atleast they could add it as an option

You need to check out the TrackIR demo with ARMA II and you will understand how it works without moving your eyes from the screen. Essentially the smallest turn of your head, left or right, gives a dramatically bigger move on the screen.

Exactly, it doesn't work off a 1:1 ratio.

TrackIR in ArmA II is sweet

The most important thing will be not to still regret after GT5 comes out and playing it.
