Quick web design question

Question

It's been years since I even thought about designing a web template. And I am a little rusty. PSD to XHTML CSS I don't have a problem with... Although, I cannot remember the best web template size to work with. I would say 800 x 900 should be fine. I do recall somebody telling me think small not big when it comes to web designing. I am doing two web templates for the following.

IP.Content

IP.Board (including apps)

yeah that should be fine, would usually say try not to go over about 940 width.

Thank you,

Oops I meant 800 width and 900 height. Thankfully Dreamweaver CS5 comes with a ruler, so you can measure every single px of graphics on the template.

I would suggest you to use a grid system - template can be found here.

OMG awesome :)

Thank you, this will be great a a reference guide.

Thank you

Concur with the 960 grid. Although don't be afraid to go beyond that limit. I stick with 1080px myself nowadays. Probably also due to the fact that less than 1% of my visitors are coming from a resolution that is 1024 or smaller.

When I design websites I stick with a container of 950px. Most of the times I design the background to look good on a full HD screen (1920x1080). This way it looks good on the most usual resolutions.
