Hum
Scientists celebrated Sunday after finding more than 700 suspected new planets -- including up to 140 similar in size to Earth -- in just six weeks of using a powerful new space observatory. Early results from NASA?s Kepler Mission, a small satellite observing deep space, suggested planets like Earth were far more common than previously thought. Past discoveries suggested most planets outside our solar system were gas giants such as Jupiter and Saturn -- but the new evidence tipped the balance in favor of solid worlds. Astronomers said the discovery meant the chances of eventually finding truly Earth-like planets capable of sustaining life rose sharply. ?The figures suggest our galaxy, the Milky Way [which has more than 100 billion stars] will contain 100 million habitable planets, and soon we will be identifying the first of them,? said Dimitar Sasselov, professor of astronomy at Harvard University and a scientist on the Kepler Mission. "There is a lot more work we need to do with this, but the statistical result is loud and clear, and it is that planets like our own Earth are out there." source

Chris du Toit
I agree. It is a pity that we will not able to visit those planets in our lifetime.
e-berlin.org
So interesting, I hope we continue space exploration and even expansion. I really think people should concentrate on solving Earth's problems instead of wasting money on useless space expansions. We may never be able to find something usable in space, especially a planet to live on. We just can't travel that far.
Growled Member Posted July 26, 2010 Member Share Posted July 26, 2010 This also should increase the chances that there is life out there.

The same thing could had been said about exploration for new ways to reach the indies.

We know how to solve our problem on Earth, but its up to you, me, and everyone else to do it. I mean I am playing my role in trying to save the Earth, are you? Its not useless and I can see you are very uneducated on this matter. Like above there is so much in space that is useful and there is for sure a habitable planet, but we just do not know where. We cant travel as far yet, but as time continues on I rather invest on the lost time.
