DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 26, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 26, 2010 July 24th, 2010 @ 22:55By Johnny Cullen It’s official: Capcom vs Namco has been announced at ComicCon. Or to give it its more specific name, Street Fighter x Tekken. And it’s 2D! This is Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono’s big announcement that has been hinted at for weeks. Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada interupted the panel, then followed up by a trailer that featured SF’s Ryu and Tekken’s Jin in SFIV’s ink style, before the game was demoed live. The fight showed a sort of tag-in style feature similar to Marvel vs Capcom, and featured Street Fighter’s Ryu and Chun-Li vs Tekken’s Jin and Nina. The crossover has been talked about for a while, a year ago at least, according to Ono and Harada. Two titles are to come: one being developed by Ono-san and Capcom, the other from Harada-san and Namco Bandai, known as Tekken x Street Fighter. The first title will be coming from the former, with the two to have each graphical style of both series. It’s for PS3 and 360. As for the release, it won’t be “for a while.” Press release, trailer, shots and the gameplay demo (thanks, GameVideos) are below. http://www.vg247.com/2010/07/24/capcom-vs-namco-announced-at-comiccon/ As resident SF fanboy I gotta post this stuff, even if no one else cares lol
LingeringSoul
And as a Tekken fanboy, I have to express my excitement for this. Tekken 6 was disappointing to me just because of how similar it was to Tekken 5 (which I put dozens upon dozens of hours into), so being able to play as my beloved Tekken characters in the 2D SFIV style is definitely exciting. And although I hate to nitpick on the VG247 article, the character in those trailers is Kazuya, not Jin (assuming we're talking about the same trailer that Destructoid posted). [/fanboy] ;)

DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 26, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted July 26, 2010 Capcom will adapt it to their own style, while Namco will make SF like Tekken in their game. i.e remove the powers

Gotenks98
Very unexpected team up, as I have always loved capcom when they do this. I just wish they picked someone other than the tekken universe, would have been nice if they did this with mortal kombat finally or even killer instinct. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 26, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted July 26, 2010 I really hope they don't cut down the rosters for each side. It'd suck to lose all the favourites from SSFIV

It'd suck to lose all the favourites from SSFIV Agreed on the SF side, although the Tekken roster could probably be cut down quite a bit and I wouldn't have a problem with it. There are so many characters that nobody uses or cares about, so I would much rather have them focus their attention on the more iconic characters of the franchise (the Mishimas, Paul, Lei, Nina, Xiao, Law, King, Yoshimitsu, etc.). All of the characters that they added in Tekken 4, 5, and 6 can be left out and I don't think there would be too much of an uproar.
rajputwarrior
Street Fighter x Tekken May Be Two Years AwayProducer Yoshinori Ono says next big announcement could come at next year's Captivate. July 26, 2010 by Anoop Gantayat We got to see Street Fighters x Tekken being played live at Comic-Con over the weekend. But this could be the last wee see of it for a long time. Following the game's announcement, Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono shared a few additional details on the game with Famitsu.com. The big point of note from the interview concerns release time frame. Said Ono, "As a target, it's about two years from announcement. It looks like the next time we'll be able to make a big announcement is at next year's Captivate." Captivate is a press event that Capcom holds every April. So if a release isn't due for two years, why such an early announcement? The reason, explained Ono, was to deliver something for the fans at Comic-Con. Despite being playable, development only recently started on SF x Tekken. Ono told Famitsu.com that they only started real work on the game one or two months back, although he admitted that there were serious discussions with Namco Bandai as far back as a year ago. With only one or two months development behind it and two more years go go, perhaps we can expect SF x Tekken to evolve greatly before its final release. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 26, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted July 26, 2010 Yeah it's gonna be a painful wait :( But that's why we have MvC3:FTW and SF3Alpha Online to fill the gap :D

rajputwarrior
Yeah it's gonna be a painful wait :( But that's why we have MvC3:FTW and SF3Alpha Online to fill the gap :D my only beef with the new street fighter games is that they are too slow. i love the pacing of street fighter 3 alpha (fave SF game of all time!) and parrying, what kind of ***** move is removing parrying? shakey
man, 2011 will be the era of fighting games. This is too sweet. Watched the videos over the weekend when they were first announced. I was just shocked. First MvC3, New rebooted MK ( hopefully good ), and now this. I also was wondering the same things as others. How will tekken players fair to ranged projectiles? How will street fighters get out of massive combos? How will Tekkens extreme damage transfer to street fighters damage scale? The videos sort of shed light on a little of it. Seems they have upped to speed up the street fighters moves, allowing ryu to basically double dragon punch someone, as well as projectiles being "dashable", so you can get up and close without having to worry about the spammers. As far as the moves and damage go, I will have to see it.
xinge
There are many characters in SF that don't have fireballs or super powers as well, ex. Abel, Rufus, Gen, Blanka... Capcom just needs to carefully balance the game well by arranging some special moves for Tekken characters so that they can easily get closer (like Blanka, Rufus) to their opponent or to evade the fireball-like attack (like Abel, Zangief). I simply hope they will throw all characters in....that would be like....80 in total to choose from?
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 28, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted July 28, 2010 The most characters Capcom have had in one of their fighters was 56 (MvC2). SSFIV had 35 but there is a lot missing from the SF universe (mostly from the SF3 era). Tekken 6 had 43 characters in it, so if they all reappear along with SSFIV's roster, that'd make 78 total. Which would also make it the largest roster in any fighting game. Quite a task, especially when 43 of them have to be imported/adapted to the SFIV engine with new moves. neoadorable
Tekken vs DOA would be more mashable. BTW just got a chance to watch that new Tekken movie. Oh please do avoid it! No Julia Chang? gotta be kidding me.

neoadorable
yeah i forgot he quit - honestly that's not the end of the world, they can still do it without him, unless he literally owns the DOA name and image, which i doubt.
