DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 27, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 27, 2010 July 26th, 2010 @ 21:38By Johnny Cullen Atlus has confirmed that Demon?s Souls? online servers will be kept online until next March. The From Software RPG was released back in the US back in October last year. The game was released in Japan in February 2009. The game, a PS3 exclusive, only released last month in Europe via Namco Bandai Partners after much fan demand to bring it to the region. So there. More ball-breaking online RPG action until March at least. Thanks, GamePolitics http://www.vg247.com/2010/07/26/demons-souls-online-servers-staying-up-until-spring-2011/ Enjoy it while you can. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted July 27, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted July 27, 2010 Bit more detail One of the hardest and most satisfying online games will keep running until at least next year.Game publisher Atlus said this week that it would continue to support online play of the PlayStation 3 gameDemon's Souls through at least March 2011. With publishers looking to cut costs, gamers have suffered a spate of server closures over the last year. Sadly, it would be no surprise if Atlus shut down the Demon's Souls servers less than twelve months after its release. But Demon's Souls was something of a sleeper hit. The brutally difficult dungeon crawler, released in October of 2009 in the U.S., garnered glowing reviews and did bang-up business for Atlus. In honor of the announcement, Atlus will shift the game's "world tendency" color to "pure white." That means online play will be a little easier for a few weeks. If you were on the fence about Demon's Souls, now's the time to take the plunge. From Software's superb role-playing game is easily one of the best games for the PlayStation 3. Many retailers are offering discounts on the game, and you can be sure that you'll get the most out of it for at least another eight more months. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 27, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted July 27, 2010 If you import a game, which servers do you connect to on the PS3? Does it go by the Blu Ray region or your location?
Nick H. Supervisor Posted July 27, 2010 Supervisor Share Posted July 27, 2010 I didn't think Blu-Ray had regions. Either way, I'd say that it decides by your location. EDIT: Just looked it up. It does have regions, but only 3 it seems. I still stand by the idea that the server is decided based on your location, doing it by region doesn't make much sense to me. Pablo2008jedi
Given that I just bought the game in the UK I hope the servers run a bit longer, but then again, will the appeal last....

Yeah but when it comes to Sony all common sense goes out the window, so I have to ask just to make sure :p For the LBP/Home betas I didn't connect to EU servers as my tokens were foreign. Just wondered how games are managed.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted July 27, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted July 27, 2010 For Demons Souls you connect to the region server you bought the game from. For most other games it's the region you're in.
curme
My connection is too slow for online play so I have been enjoying the single player game. The online play sounds like it has a lot of griefing combined with people turning off their PS3s before they die..

Only get invaded in body form as people are trying to steal "your body" to revive themselves out of soul form. I should add the whole game is playable in offline mode and it's possible to get every trophy as well.

ichi
I don't get what's "brutally difficult" about Demon's Soul. Sure it doesn't hold your hand through the game, and the depleting stamina doesn't let you tear large mobs apart like you would do in other games. but once you get used to the combat system it's actually fairly easy  Maybe it's just that combat is a lot like Monster Hunter's (which I've played a lot in coop) only that even easier (you can lock into enemies and see how much damage you are dealing), but so far I'm progressing through the game quite nicely without problems. Also the game has quite a few glitches, eg I killed the armored spider with the crossbow, shooting from a position where it couldn't hit me no matter what it did, and the large demon in the shrine of storms just stood there looking at me while I turned him into a pincushion. . And even without glitches the Abjudicator was a matter of old school strafe shooting abuse, the Tower Knight died in about two minutes of close combat (I didn't have any useful spell to throw at him from over the merlons, which would have felt cheap anyway), and Fool's Idol was almost laughably easy as pillars offered and excellent cover . It would be cool if they released a patch (although I guess they won't) to allow some sort of p2p coop once they shutdown the servers.

If it's fully playable offline, then it will be a worthy addition to my collection.

The online stuff isn't that important, you never interact with anyone you see as they appear as ghosts. You interact by leaving messages left on the ground. The only thing about online is the ability to hijack another players game to kill them, if the are in body form, and this is rare I've not survived long enough in body form :p. Infact I noticed no real difference this week, as I had not updated my PS3 F/W so I couldn't sign in to PSN, and therefor played offline.
shakey
Just got this game, loving and hating it. Has one hell of a learning curve, and in no way does it take it easy on you. I'm stuck on the first lvl with the spear dude. He just charges me and dead lol. Fun as hell though :)

Usually lots of warning messages on the ground to avoid him at a low level :p He protects an area you access later on in the game. He sure does lol. After dieing to him like 3 times in a row, i decided a walkthrough was needed, and it said just what you did. I ended up giving up on my soldier last night, making a magician, and beating the first lvl in what took almost 2 hours because I kept reading. Then later today, got back onto the soldier, grabbed my souls from that spot, and did a run through in like 30 minutes of the level and the boss. Game seems to get a little easier as you learn the mechanics, but still challenging and very brutal to mistakes. Loving it :) Thinking about trying out a Royalty build, as I have read it offers the best challenge.
