+Warwagon MVC Posted July 27, 2010 MVC Share Posted July 27, 2010 The one thing I always loved about the "Super Metroid" was all the crap that was hidden around the game. You would take your your Xray thingy and scan the walls. Or you would find a spot in a wall by accident which would take you to a hidden room you never new existed. Are there any games that you know of that have stuff hidden in them like Super Metroid. It still goes down as my all time favorite SNES game, and its a very short list of games I have completed. +Warwagon MVC Posted July 27, 2010 Author MVC Share Posted July 27, 2010 You could always try one of the billion hidden object games out there. Those games always tend to annoy me. It was the way metroid did it that made it fun.
x9248
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlevania:_Symphony_of_the_Night It's very similar to Metroid... at least in terms of gameplay. Not sure if it has as many secrets as you would like tho. The GBA and DS games are also similar. Edit: This sentence in the wiki pretty much says it all :p The gaming press often draws comparisons between the gameplay of Symphony of the Night (and its 2-D successors) with the popular Super Metroid,[6] which led to the coinage of the terms "Castleroid" and "Metroidvania" (portmanteaux of Castlevania and Metroid). Corris Veteran Posted July 27, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 27, 2010 Super Metroid is one of my favourite games, the Castlevania games are very similar, so much so that the gameplay style is refereed to as "Metroidvanias" Games that are Similiar: GBA - Metroid: Zero Mission GBA - Metroid Fusion GBA - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon GBA - Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance GBA - Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow DS - Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow DS - Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin DS - Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia PS1/Xbox360 - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Xbox 360 - Shadow Complex I own most of the games I've listed, missing one or two from the list. But to be perfectly honest, imo Super Metroid really is the best out there at what it did, and I go back and play it every few months and have never gotten bored. And be careful when delving into the Castlevania games, they can be balls to the wall hard sometimes if you generally don't know what your doing, lol. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted July 27, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 27, 2010 What about the Metroid Prime games? I know it's a change from 2D side scrolling but it still has a lot of collecting involved.

Lazure
Little Nemo Dream Master - Classic and very challenging. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Nemo:_The_Dream_Master http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Elc4vzkI0Co I always enjoyed this game. I used to have it on the real NES back in the day. It's actually a pretty hard game, too!

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted July 28, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 28, 2010 Seriously, Shadow Complex should have been the first suggestion Agreed. It is the most recent game that came to mind for me as well.
Tha Bloo Monkee
Doom. I've been playing that game alot recently and let me tell you, finding the secrets is no easy task. The secrets often involve literally pressing the space bar/open door button at random walls and seeing if it'll open lol. Um, other old-school games that have hidden things? The Super Mario games to a certain extent (I know where all the secrets are in those games lol). Lots of games have those quests to find hard things though, even in new games. Doesn't those GTA games have those secret items around the city? If I think of anymore I'll let you know. It'll help if you give a bit more detail as to what you're looking for more (old-school console? FPS? Side-scrolling like Metroid?)
Tha Bloo Monkee
I thought of another one - the older Tomb Raider games for PS1. I've never played the newer PS2/PS3 ones but the PS1 games (TR1-5) are loaded with hard-to-find secrets.
Gotenks98
What about the Metroid Prime games? I know it's a change from 2D side scrolling but it still has a lot of collecting involved. ^^^This I would definately have to say they did an excellent job in the 3d transition unlike many other games. Just be sure to get the Wii version as it has all 3 games on 1 disc now.
