VLC 1.1.1 Will Not Install

Question

I keep getting this error when trying to install the latest version of VLC. Anyone else have this problem?

ERROR OPENING FILE FOR WRITING

I cannot seem to get a image into this file but the above error is what I have gotten after downloading VLC 4 times.

It seems like a straighfoward message. It can't open the file for writing, which would indicate that it is either open/in use or there is a permission issue. Trying running setup as administrator if you are sure vlc.exe isn't running.

HUW, I said I had downloaded it 4 different times and got the same error.

I have uninstalled VLC prior to installing the latest version.

I'm going back to VLC website and try one more time tonight.

Ok Guys, Thanks. I got it installed. I ran regedit and cleaned all VLC and Videolan associations, rebooted and re-download VLC and it installed. I had previously uninstalled VLC but there it did not remove the directory C:\Program Files\VideoLan. Ccleaner did not delete it either. But regedit got them after a reboot.

That sounds pretty extreme! I discovered that you can rename the application folder ( I added a ".old" to the end of the name ), and then install the upgrade.

Yep, now the next person who finds this thread via Web search, as I did, will find 2 solutions instead of just one. Nifty how that works, eh?
