boobless
http://cubeonline.gamefarmer.com/archives/000009.html Check out this page, the guy claims to have played Kirby's Air Ride (japanese version) online through some kind of LAN hack. There's also a video of the online race on that site. Does this mean Mario Kart online? Hopefully yes.... :o Edited July 16, 2003 by boobless
Dazzla Veteran Posted July 16, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 16, 2003 I was hoping for this once they announced Mario Kart was playable over a LAN. Shouldn't take much to do seeing as the waters are tried and tested for Xbox LAN gaming online.
Joel
Wasn't Nintendo in talks with an online service for just that reason?
Destian
Umm... this makes no sense. All that video is showing is two people playing over a LAN. Which you are supposed to be able to do anyway. What does this have to do with online?

What does this have to do with online? That race was done over the internet, there is no online mode in the game it self, online thing is done through a LAN hack. silly_walk, Nintendo made some kind of deal with Gamespy in 2001 but nothing really ever came out of it. doggbizkit00
July 16, 2003 Testing Complete, Specification Coming After 5 days of testing, I am ready to publish my results. Tonight I was able to connect two GameCubes over a LAN thanks to my friend importing Kirby Air Ride. You can view the video of our complete LAN race by clicking here. What's next you say? Well, I created a project on sourceforge a few days ago. As soon as I publish my findings, the specification of the protocol Nintendo is using, and a few suggestions about what needs to be done to bridge two LANs together (a simple tunnel will not do), I will be aggressively recruiting developers. Posted by Chad at 03:32 AM July 14, 2003 Kirby Online? Thanks to mj1108 from the IGN Cube boards, it looks like the Japanese might have figured out a solution to bring Kirby online. It runs at 3fps and requires two LAN cards and a crossover cable. I'll be keeping an eye on this. from the Warn Pipe Project
ImOnTheGoodFoot
the 3fps is because of the weak network they had it on. It won't be like that across broadband networks in the US & Europe.
Dazzla Veteran Posted July 16, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 16, 2003 Thread merged and sig removed, however glorious Cameron Diaz's ass is, it's 354kb ;)
Danrarbc
It's been online officially since last year if you want to split hairs ;) I've been following this tunneling project since it's begining, when it was just a topic on the IGN board. When he gets it working expect the first version or two to be *nix only, he's familiar with coding for it. Win32 will come later when he has help with porting it. Can't wait to see how it turns out, I want to play Mario Kart online.
