Twitter Profile Image

Question

Is anyone familiar with Twitter's profile images? Seems like in the past uploading a background free PNG image or "transparent" background image, the image would appear and upload to twitter properly. Now, Twitter seems to be doing what Facebook does and converts the file into some other format while applying a white background. It was only about 3 weeks ago that it worked properly for me.

Anyone have any tips to get the image to appear properly or perhaps have any similar experiences they can share?

Well, after 2 full days of checking Twitter is finally not over it's server load capacity and I can view more events and articles in the support center.

Directly from Twitter:

Some users are having trouble customizing their profile. This appears to be affecting both profile pictures and background images. Specifically,

Background image uploads claim to be uploading successfully but are not being displayed as the profile background after uploading and saving. Please make sure that you understand how to properly upload a background image. Also make sure that the image which you are trying to upload meets the image requirements specified here

A horizontal black bar is added to the bottom of the profile thumbnail image.

Full sized profile images are being stretched or distorted.

We will place updates on this issue on this page below our signature when we have more information. Check back for more information soon.

7/27/10 UPDATE: We fixed a major issue with avatar uploads but have not completely fixed the problem where a black bar is added to the bottom of the image. Also, users are still reporting difficulties uploading background image uploads; we are investigating these issues.

So I write Twitter a comment regarding this issue:

This is extremely frustrating. I don't understand why you guys have to break something that has worked perfectly in the past. As a web developer this is putting a huge dent into my work flow. I have incorporated a twitter feed onto my clients website, which also displays profile images.

You said there has been a major "fix" to the avatars, but that seems not to be the case. Unless of course you are removing background free avatars. When I upload a correctly sized image that is background free (transparent PNG), a white background is added and when I view the uploaded image at full size it looks like, well, ass.

Please fix this.

And after I typed it and clicked submit..

Something is technically wrong.

Thanks for noticing—we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon.

LOL. I hate Twitter. Their developers suck.

Their developers, servers, bandwidth runs out pretty much 10 to 20 times a day. The FAIL whale is pretty much their homepage. That's why I quit twitter in the first place.
