DiRT 3 Trailer Shown during ESPN X-Games

Recommended Posts

Looking forward to this game as I enjoyed both DiRT 1 and 2. It will be completly diffrent to Dirt 2 though according to Codemasters Studios vice president Gavin Cheshire:

?There?s an overwhelming arcing vision to all of our racing titles, and Grid is incredibly strong, but we?re lucky enough to be in a position where we?ve got racing games in different areas. Dirt was a complete reboot ? we threw away what was going on and redid it completely ? and then we rebooted Grid because it wasn?t top gun, and then we rebooted Dirt 2. I?m not saying we?re throwing all the codebase away, but we?re throwing the thoughts away and coming out with something fresh and new. Because if you don?t innovate, you?re dead.?

Too bad the last few seconds of the trailer still got Ken Block written all over it. I find that guy annoying, without his voice being broadcasted in the second game every five seconds.

I actually screamed a few good times "STFU ALREADY!" on that intro

Same, The only thing I find annoying on DiRT2 is the voice-overs. Hopefully that is something they have changed or got rid of.

Looks sweet :D

And I love anything with a bit of London in it, so seeing Battersea power station in there was cool

I love them all. At least in terms of actual racing. I loved their in car view too. Truly exceptional. I'll be all over this like a bad case of herpes

Well... for me, Dirt 2 was fun for about 3 hours. Then the repetitiveness of driving the same tracks over and over again kicked in. Hopefully Dirt 3 has more track variety. If it even has a pc version that is.. I won't be playing it otherwise.

I wish the Dirt series would get out this dune buggy phase and get onto real rallying like Richard Burns Rally. Concentrate on the handling of the car because Dirt was ridiculously bad for me.

It was just a swinging match, car swings left, swings right, didn't feel connected to the road or to the controls.

Also why is every game a hazy red colour? With bokeh and a friggin' glow to everything? I'm after realism, they need to look at their screens and then take a look outside the window and compare the two. The real world doesn't glow.

The first 30 seconds of that trailer look good to me though.

More excited about the F1 game I think. Bring it.

Love that engine sound  Focus RS

I really hope they go back to their roots and it's absolutely nothing like Dirt 2.

If not the Official WRC game will have my money instead

Make it about the rallying again and not this show boatsy baja yanky stuff. Lets see it loosely based on some European rallys. God knows thats what Id do.

Okay trailer, don't think any car games beat the classiness of PD's trailers, but I'm interested in the game none the less.

i don't remember the last time a rally game went for class...

sliding around the dirt/snow/rain @ 80-90 mph while bucking donuts doesn't really scream out class. just fun :D

Sounds like you'd fit in well with the Conservatives ;)

Some more details:

The recently-revealed Codemasters racer DiRT 3, due out on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next year, will have "snow and ice, dynamic weather, YouTube uploads, fierce rides and epic tracks, splitscreen support, party modes, an open-world playground and more real-life sponsors and stars than ever," according to the latest issue of Edge magazine.

In the mag, which landed on Eurogamer's desk this morning, chief game designer Matt Horsman says DiRT 3 "is the biggest rally game ever made".

A new career mode emphasises working and racing as a team, and starts you off as a "privateer" racing cars from the 90s.

There's a mix of modern and classic cars, with the odd legend like the Morris Cooper dropped in just for fun.

There are super buggies and RAID trucks, too. All the vehicles are more detailed than before, we're told.

100 routes are promised, stretching from Norway, Aspen and Monte Carlo to the plains of Africa.

You can trim your replays and upload them to YouTube. There's a combo system that analyses how close your car is to obstacles before working out your score.

Codies has ditched DiRT 2's divisive festival-themed menus and replaced them with a "more stylised" front end. The UK publisher/developer reckons it's got the balance of appealing to US and European fans "bang on" in terms of voice-over and narrative.

And, of course, there are party modes, namely: Transporter, Goldrush, Outbreak and Cat 'n' Mouse.

DiRT 3 was unveiled this morning with a trailer.
