+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted August 3, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted August 3, 2010 A new survey has claimed that the general public is currently more interested in purchasing PlayStation Move than Kinect. The survey, conducted by Groupola.com, made use of a total of over 2,000 British gamers and found that just 23% of Xbox 360 owners currently intend to buy Kinect, with 77% suggesting that the £129.99 price-tag is too expensive to warrant a purchase. The survey also claims that the initial software lineup for Kinect isn't proving to be very popular. 19% of 360 owners said that they were interested in the games, which include Kinectimals, Kinect Sports and Kinect Joyride. 64% of PlayStation 3 owners said that they intend to buy the Move controller, which is standalone £35. According to Groupola, the price is a hurdle that many customers can't overcome. "I genuinely believe that the main issue with the Kinect is that it's been too highly priced," piped up MD, Mark Pearson. "The cost may be its downfall, and unless the system launches to huge consumer acclaim, I think they'll be dropping that price dramatically when the Move launches in order to compete," he said. Retailers have claimed that Kinect pre-orders will be the biggest to date. However if this survey is any indication, the strategy to "tempt people with familiarity" seems to be backfiring. soniqstylz
There's a lot of hidden cost with Move, so we'll see how it pans out on release. Not worried about what may or may not happen with something I'm only marginally interested in.

Not worried about what may or may not happen with something I'm only marginally interested in. If you were to buy 1 x PSEye, 2 x PSMove, 2 x Subcontroller it would cost you £117. Kinect costs £125. (based on two people playing on each as Kinect can only have 2 players at once). And then there's the fact many Move titles don't need a sub controller at all, and those that do can be used with a DS3 for skint people. Kinect just costs too much in the UK, especially for people who play on their console on their own/only multiplayer online.
nw2001
Im just hoping some clever people manage to get kinect working on pc's, if that happens Ill buy it just to use it on my media center. It would be amazing.

SaltLife
Didn't an earlier report state that the majority of people were interested in Kinect vs Move? Perhaps it was only for US at the time, either way good to see things heating up and people somewhat interested in both products. Will be an interesting holiday season

Ironman273
That's interesting considering that on the Amazon site, if you look at bestsellers for both consoles Kinect is No. 14 in the US and No. 21 in UK while the Move is nonexistent in the top 25 both in the US and UK. Could it be.... spin? :iiam: Edit: Just went back to check and, good news! The Move subcontroller is in 72nd place (and climbing)! I guess since it's only £24.91. You brits are a cheap bunch... ;) It's also funny that you're arguing about how the Move is a better value by a few quid but the launch PS3 was a much better buy at the time. nowimnothing
One other flaw in this logic is that those numbers were % of existing game console owners. One of the things that both the 360 and Playstation folks are going for here is to bring in non-traditional gamers. I.E. folks who would buy the Wii but not already have a 360/PS. So asking people who already bought one of these systems is kind of dumb - that's not the strategy of either company (at first, at least).

zeke009
I saw the Kinect demo at the Mall of America recently and that looked pretty cool. Almost all of the games I saw had amazing response times to tracking the players, there was one demo where you kickbox blocks or something and one kid was going to fast for it to capture his movements. I was impressed and more importantly, so was my wife.

rajputwarrior
Hmmm... I guess I made Audio's ignore list :D been there done that. amazon.co.uk shows more move preorders then kinect as well (top 50) kinect isn't even in the top 100 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/new-releases/videogames/ref=pd_nr_pg_4?ie=UTF8&pg=1) amazon.com is the exact same story (http://www.amazon.com/gp/new-releases/videogames/ref=pd_nr_pg_1?ie=UTF8&pg=1) so the survey seems pretty legit

rajputwarrior
Anyone who doesn't own ANYTHING move related is going to buy the starter kit at ?50. doubtful. i think all this move, kinect crap is a gimmick (like 3d tv). the chances of me actually buying something are slim to none. i don't get the concept of being out all day working, playing sports or drinking(which would be my case) then coming home and flopping around like a fish out of water to play games? I want to CHILL when im playing video games. :bounce: hahahahahahahahahhahahaha i'd plus 1 you for sure for that So how are your links different than my links? (besides showing the exact opposite?) i don't know. it's just i went on amazon and looked it up and that's what it showed
