4oD Coming To PS3

Recommended Posts

Following the success of BBC's iPlayer on PlayStation, Channel 4 could be the first commercial TV station to come to the PS3 according to an interview in Broadcast magazine.

TechRadar are reporting that Channel 4 are currently looking to take their on demand digital service to other platforms following their success on Virgin Media's on demand service and YouTube, with an iPad app also in development.

Talks between Sony and the British TV channel are at early stages, but Channel 4 seem confident of a deal being made with an insider quoted as saying - "4oD is becoming a platform agnostic product and will be successful because of the quality of the content."

With a rich back catalogue including The Inbetweeners, The Ali G Show, and Fonejacker, the addition of 4oD to the XMB will surely be celebrated as another win for Sony fanboys everywhere.

Fantastic. I don't really watch much Channel 4 (if any), but this is a great move - I was only thinking whether this would ever appear on the PS3 the other day.

I love iPlayer and seem use it quite a fair bit, but I was left wishing there was more choice from a wider range of sources. A uk-specific hulu or see-saw, or maybe even Google TV - will undoutedly make the PS3 the best bit of kit to ever own in the world. Ever. In the world. Ever

(So long as you like games and the tv you choose to watch. yip.)

Cue pathetic fanboyizm...

A few years ago this would have been awesome, but I watch less and less tv. In fact I can narrow it down to a few shows, most of which are on Dave/Sky 3:

Never Mind The Buzzcocks (sucks now anyway),

Have I Got News For You

Mock The Week

QI

And Road Wars / Street Wars on Sky 3.

BBC iPlayer only has it's uses for BBC2/3 with the new series of the shows above.

But hey, Big Brother 24/7 (Y) Score

I just hope it's a native app and not a link to a website.

I think they mentioned redoing the iPlayer to be a native app, unless I've made that up in my head somewhere, so I would assume/hope we would for this as well.

I never heard of it.

That would be because you are in a different country. :p

I want it for the Wii! The iPlayer channel is great for my girlfriend with her Eastenders and whatnot, but when I get the TV, I would love to have on-demand IT Crowd and Spaced and stuff! Lucky PS3 owners!

... Wait.. me get the TV? Nvm. :p

4oD for iPad excites me more. I.T. Crowd in bed for the win.

+1

Might watch some more c4 shows now.

I always forget to go on 4od, as I don't like watching tv at my desk :pinch:

Ok, two things - that 'opinion' you have is wrong, and it is awesome.

I only really watch football, like you, Dave, and Sky Sports News on tv these days, I just use iPlayer to catch up on something I might have missed, or fancy a browse for something that looks half-decent when bored. If something is on a BBC channel that I know I'll miss for one reason or another, I won't bother Sky +ing it anymore, as I know 99.9% of the time it'll appear on iPlayer later on.

I'm not saying this is a great idea for me personally, I just think its a fantastic step forward that companies are seeing the potential of the PS3 as a 'media' centre. Like I said earlier, just potentially having the choice to watch any free-to-air tv in one place would be fantastic.

Wow, I really hit a nerve there huh  All because I don't enjoy the same tv as you

IMO, I think the Wii need's 4OD more. I mean the iPlayer channel was a huge success for all the family. Watching stuff when nothing is on, and catching up on stuff like missed Eastenders and Doctor Who. And the Wii is very popular. I'm sure more people have a Wii so it would be more of a hit.

On the PS3 IMHO I don't think it will be worth it. Since in my area. I only know one or two with a PS3. But quite a few use 4OD. And lots have the Wii.

Does anybody know if it's going to be a universal iOS app?

Can only assume so. There doesn't seem to be much information available, but I think the upcoming iPlayer app is going to be universal which only bodes well.

Seems logical to be honest.
