What game do you credit for turning you into a "Gamer"?

Recommended Posts

I was gaming long before Medal of Honor: Allied Assault but that is the first game that got me really into gaming, particularly multiplayer gaming and all of what comes with that side. Afterwards it was on to Call of Duty, and 2, both obviously on PC still and then eventually moving to consoles for more multiplayer gaming with COD4 on Xbox 360.

But like I said, I was gaming way before MOH:AA was out but that is just the first game that I played endless hours with and continue to do to this day with other great titles. Be it just single player or multiplayer.

Rainbow Six. I played many games before, Commodore Vic-20, Atari etc.... Doom, Quake but Rainbow Six got me hooked for online play, 56K modem style and I never looked back.

The original Zelda and Jackal for the Nintendo put the foundation in my brain. Then Doom, Metal Gear Solid, and Half-Life cemented it, where it will stay forever.

I played loads of games on the Commodore, Nes and Master System but no game did it for me unti Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Super Mario World on the SNES. Those are the first games I remember doing all nighters on and I still play them today.

First 2 games I got in 98 i belive with the system. It was some special holiday bundle or what not. All i know is, i open this box and i was ecstatic. This is what sucked me into gaming. But the game that i truly spent countless hours players time after time was Delta Force Land Warrior(DFLW). Best ****ing fps of its time, imo that is.

Got me into knifing all the time, sniping. CQB action was superb on it. First game that i made maps/discovered making of maps. First game I learned how to host a server for. Good times in general. Community started dieing late 03, early 04. Got a new PC, and started playing again, this is when i realized most of the community went to cod4/bf2. I moved over to bf2 slowly and then did that religiously and mixed some cod4 into it the years after.

It's certainly not the first game I ever played, but Quake II was one of the first games that I was ever truly obsessed with. I can easily single that game out as the one game that really made me into a gamer.

It's the first game that I ever played in a clan with, and it's the most fun that I ever had in a competitive gaming scenario. It's actually the first online game that I ever played, and I was absolutely amazed at the concept. The fact that I could be sitting at my desk playing a game of deathmatch or CTF against people living in the United States or the UK was mindboggling to me, and I was instantly addicted. The fact that I was on a 56K modem getting 700+ pings on all of my favourite servers didn't matter one bit. I still remember the days when I woke up at 6 AM, stumbled to my computer, and booted the game up to practice with my clan mates, most of which lived in the UK.

It's funny because that's the first game that came into my mind when I looked at this thread's title, but nowadays I tend to think of myself more as a single-player gamer than a multiplayer gamer. I guess if I had to think of a single-player game that defined my gaming life, it would be the original Half-Life. Again, there's a game that just had my mind blown from start to finish.

Probably Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo at first.

But Gears of War and COD on the 360 definitely took me to a whole new level. Gears online got me hooked and I played it literally none stop for months. Call of Duty keeps me going too.

A lot of Arcade games got me into gaming very early on. My brother and I spent our evenings in an arcade almost every Friday night when I was little. Around the same time, I played quite a bit of Doom and Dune 2, and then eventually C&C and CS, when I could get the computer away from my brother.

I was obsessed with the Mario Bros. games, but I never owned a Nintendo; I had to leach off friends to play that one.

Also, I'd say Halo:CE turned me into the more hardcore gamer I am today. Especially after spending hours playing through system link with my boyfriend, when we were going to school hundreds of miles from one another. Best way to interact long-distance, other than webcam.

Now I'll play just about anything; but I especially love FPS.

Having just gotten the RROD a few nights ago, I really realize how much time I spend gaming: A lot.

The first game I played was Alex the kid in miracle world on the Segs Master System. I think the game that turned me into a gamer wasTekken/Tekken 2 for the PS1, I spent so much time on those games. Then it went downhill from there...
