It only ... delays

You can't really use that comparison though. I'm not spending my money on something others get free because nobody gets XBL Gold for free. PSN is a different service for a different console (and honestly one I wouldn't pay money for given my ongoing experience with it) that has a completely different dynamic than XBL so its not fair to say I'm paying for something others get free.

I get what you're saying and not paying is nice, but I have no issues paying for XBL given what I get back.

I'd hope not :p as I would be mad paying for a service I had issues with hehe. But for what the ps3 offers, for free, you really can't beat it or have even a base of solid ground to complain about. Hell, PC'ers have had worse treatment for years on games and services, so I guess I'm just used to that, and what consoles bring, being so streamlined and efficient... it is just a nice change.

XBL has some great features as well, but I just became to tired of the layout and "in your face" of the design. I seem to like the sleek, uncluttered feel, that the ps3 seems to have.

More like:

Xbox Live

Playstation Network

(Every other service available for online game goes here.)

Wii Network, it's just horrid, but least the download and install animation OWNS!

Agreed with this. :)

So I just received MAG today, put the disk in, had to download and install a 32MB patch. Didn't take long, 30 secs at most.

Then the game boots...549MB patch to download. Started it at 13:29, let's see how long it takes ;)

Would take less than 10 mins for me on any other computer/360 I own.

Started: 13:29

Edit2: 13:39 = 57%

Edit 3: 13:47 = 100% - installing now....

Edit 4: 13:57 = installed!! Oh wait, lunch break is over

I agree the patching on my PS3 seems to be more frequent and takes longer. The 360 is a lot quicker on my connection, which is not brilliant. It's a shame there isn't a setting where you could download demos and etc and have them install as they download, i can understand that as a cool feature you could download and then copy to a memory stick to take around your mates but 9/10 your mate would have already downloaded the demo.

The one thing i will give sony is the truely excellent way it handles media and HDD storage, there simply is no better system to upgrade your hdd on the consoles. I love that i don't have to worry about the storage on the PS3 as i can simply buy a larger hdd down the line (started with 80GB now on 320GB).

Half hour? Yikes.

MAG is a decent game. You will enjoy it.

Definitely a different experience for me as I noted in my previous post. I guess it just depends on where you are connecting from.

Yup, that was an example of when the speeds/downloads are "good" too, trust me. Some games just stack them one after the other. LBP, UC2 etc.

Really wish Sony would provide a way like the 360 does and you only need to download the most recent.

Ten minutes just to install the patch is pretty brutal. If it was the game itself then maybe I could understand, but a patch? What exactly are they patching that requires ten minutes?

It's sad and somewhat humorous that my immediate instinct when patching/installing a PS3 game is to switch my TV signal over and play a few rounds of Geometry Wars 2 on the 360.

EDIT: My tone in the original text was a little harsh, so I re-wrote it. I may have been in a bad mood when I wrote that.
