PS3 and Tversity

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this goes here or the Media room so move if needed.

So when I used my Xbox 360 to stream videos I used TVersity and had no issues viewing movies, they played smoothly. No I have a PS3 and still use TVersity because I don't like Media Center. I've added some new movies to the TVersity library and recently have started having LAG or Stutter issues. I've updated to the latest version and still it does it. I can play movies that have been in the library for months without issues, but new ones seem to work fine for the first minute or so and then skip, play, skip play etc... The PS3 is wireless, and I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.

What is causing this and how do I fix it?

Thanks.

dump tversity and get thisps3 media server

It is easier to use, and works for more than just your ps3. My tv picks up the media on it as well when on the lan.

I found that subtitles can cause lag, and have just disabled them all for anything 1080p ( for my system, if you have a decent computer, dont worry about subs)

I had a lot of lag when doing HD over wifi. Was unbearable at times. But yea Ps3 media server is the way to go.

There's a good tutorial on here about optimal setup setting would post but I'm on my mobile

I removed TVersity and installed and configured PSMS. Tried to play a video that skips, oddly I ripped Alice and Wonderland for my daughter (Disney Original) and it still skips about 2 minutes in, it stutters. The size of it is about 900MB. Tried another that was larger, skips after about 2 minutes as well. So I went onto a movie that is over 1GB and it doesn't skip, plays all the way through.

Could it be the way I converted them or is it software?

it's all DLNA server and client really...

i've used TVersity, PS3 Media Server, and even ones from Samsung etc.

All work - the bandwidth (for transport) and cpu speed is what matters (for transcoding).

try using handbrake to re-rip the dvd you're having issues with ... (you'll want to rename the output file to .mp4 for the ps3 to pick it up without issue)
