classicdisastr
So it took me 4 months to finally get my site finished. I made so many designs and I settled on one finally. It's really basic but I like it. http://caseymilstead.com Any suggestions, critiques, etc?

0 hakem
Hello, Nice site? ;) I think you need to change the color of the link in the top "Download my vCard | Follow me on Twitter" Thanks
0 classicdisastr
I give it I like eyecandy I would agree with that. The reason it's so bland is because I can't think of any eye candy to add! I'm not sure what I should do ):

I'm not sure what I should do ): I think he is being overly harsh. the site is not badly built, i just think it needs a bit more ummmm personality. for a personal site try and get it to reflect your life/interests then it would probably look livelier
0 Mouldy Punk
I quite like the simplicity and colour of it. Makes a nice middle ground between the hundreds of overly glossy or overly minimal designs for personal portfolios. One thing I don't particularly like is that it seems very cramped. My monitor's resolution is 1680x1050 and your website just looks like it's squashed into a box in the middle of massive white space.
0 Tech Star
Your logo looks like the cartoon network logo kinda.
0 Jase
Font choice for the CM is way to cartoony for a portfolio site.. try something less cartoony, and as Tech star said - it also reminded me of the Cartoon Network logo.
0 Halfalive
http://travelguidetodc.org site in your portfolio list has an error loading the page.... It is a little plain to be selling yourself as a web designer, but other than that it's pretty nice.
0 classicdisastr
So many people have said it's like cartoon network's logo. The bad thing is it took me forever to make it. I'll see what I can do before I get sued or something xD http://travelguidetodc.org site in your portfolio list has an error loading the page.... It is a little plain to be selling yourself as a web designer, but other than that it's pretty nice. I saw that this morning, I don't know how there's an error when I haven't touched it in months and it didn't do it before.

0 Chasethebase Reporter Posted August 11, 2010 Reporter Share Posted August 11, 2010 Just change up the font in your logo and see if it looks good. If so go with it (Y). You could post some possibilities here and we'll decide for you. :p Looks nice, simple, clean and does the job. Nothing distracting save for the Rainbowsheep banner at the top.
0 classicdisastr
Surly you can't be serious? I didn't word that right... I went through 10 other logos before I made this and liked it, which took forever.
0 Jase
Yeah everything else looks good other than the logo, slow down the image rotator, its slightly distracting.. may I suggest throwing the content into a greyish almost white box? try: #eeeef6 or maybe add a curve? Believe me, one simple addition could change the webpage completely (Y)

0 classicdisastr
here's what I've come up with. I thought some color could be added.
0 Orange Battery
Start with a positive, one of the most important parts of a website is its ease of use and navigation, you have those. In terms of design Im reminded of basic designs in the 90's. Bit of a mish mash, almost as if your not sure where your site is heading. There are a lot of simple tutorials out there now so there is no real excuse. Add some eye candy (not at the expense of simplicity though)
0 classicdisastr
I found a design that i was working on a while back. It has more personality. Should I use this design instead (with some changes of course)? http://caseymilstead.com/dev/iceberg The only pages that work are the about and services pages. I really like the homepage design of that, but I'm not a big fan of the way the boxes are done on the other pages though - they don't seem to fit in with the style too well IMO. 0 ashpowell
also you state that your code is completely valid, you own page doesn't pass validation, quick and simple to do but some people check this :)

0 classicdisastr
also you state that your code is completely valid, you own page doesn't pass validation, quick and simple to do but some people check this :) Really? It was when I checked it last. Maybe I should do it often :s I really like the homepage design of that, but I'm not a big fan of the way the boxes are done on the other pages though - they don't seem to fit in with the style too well IMO. I agree, Those will definitely need to be remade. I was using border radius on it, but the top corners wouldn't round, so i don't know what's up with that. 0 riceBox
Just another suggestion, widen up the site a tiny bit. Perhaps 6-18 px spacing for some elements can give that "breathable" feeling of the site.
