Toxikk Veteran Posted December 31, 2001 Veteran Share Posted December 31, 2001 has anyone found out how to modify the classic theme in xp?
Binary
classic isnt a theme, thats the actuall gui. Themes just write on top of it, someone just mentioned this in another thread.
Toxikk Veteran Posted December 31, 2001 Author Veteran Share Posted December 31, 2001 oh... so you cannot use reshacker to change any bmp files?
Binary
The classic gui doesnt use bitmaps. I believe its rendered thru fractal things or something, I'm not sure about that but I am pretty sure they arnt bmp's :)
Toxikk Veteran Posted December 31, 2001 Author Veteran Share Posted December 31, 2001 damn... those logoff and shutdown butttons are butt nastee in the classic theme.
mephistocorugan
well, if you want to hack classic, you can start by changing the marlett.ttf font, because that holds most of the glyphs (min/max/close) that're used in explorer... the logoff buttons i'm sure are in a dll somewhere you'd just have to look for it... you can get some more ideas from virtual plastic :old:

thetombraider
Ugh... no wonder the themes are so slow and Classic is a bit faster! The themes are placed OVER the Classic UI! Couldn't they have come up with something a little more conservative? Anyway, I also use the Scrolling Menus, No shadows (only under the pointer), Classic Start Menu. It's all faster. And I think it looks more professional than 'Luna' or any other Styles XP theme. (No offense to any of the authors... your themes are great.), Mike PS - I JUST REALISED SOMETHING!! ON THE CLASSIC START MENU, THE LOGOFF AND SHUTDOWN BUTTONS ARE NICE, UNLIKE THE XP START MENU!
Binary
thetombraider? ugh those buttons are the ugliest things I have ever seen(unless u mean start "menu" I mean the classic start "panel"), I am pretty sure MS left them there by mistake, because I doubt they would have used those ugly 8 bit "icons" there. Toxik already sent last night, if you didnt get it let me know :) I'll send it steven J. But remember it's a hacked explorer which means u have to replace it, which can be tricky, and dont blame me if your system blows up or steals your g/f ;) Chris
DJP
The original theme is also build on bitmaps. And no, they aren't running on top of it. (It's not windowblinds 2.x) The bitmaps of the classic theme are somewhere hidden in a dll file. Me is pretty sure. greetings
Toxikk Veteran Posted December 31, 2001 Author Veteran Share Posted December 31, 2001 how do i replace it?
velocity3k
Classic is the best gui the only problem is the icons don't fit in with the theme!
Binary
Toxikk you can either disable windows file protection (not such a good move) or replace it from another OS (if you dual boot) or replace it in safe command prompt mode. :)
