+Warwagon MVC Posted August 12, 2010 MVC Share Posted August 12, 2010 I recently stumbled upon a PlayStation 2 emulator called "PCSX2". http://pcsx2.net/ http://pcsx2.net/files/18430 I own the game god of war but never got very far in it. Now with emulation it allows me to save the state where ever I'm at, So now I'm having a BLAST! The game plays great. I'm currently running it on an i7 920 with 6 gigs of ram and a HD 4300 series graphics card and I get about 35 frames per second as a minimum (graphic intensive areas) and about 50FPS the rest of the time. I tried it on a Core 2 duo with a Geforce 7950 pci express graphics card and the game at it's best hit 35fps, but it felt like it was moving in slow motion So if your computer has the testicles and if you own a few PS2 games give this emulator a try, its a lot of fun. In game screen shot of God Of War on the PCSX2 Emulator
hotdog666al
Yeah man, runs most games perfectly if you set the native internal res to automatic. Some games like Final Fantasy X and XII look incredible if you bump up the internal res to much higher, although others will screw up if you do this (like with Devil May Cry). hotdog666al
From there website? Oh man, that was easy! I vaguely remember them being being really sneaky with their beta builds... maybe it's changed now, or perhaps I'm thinking of a different emulator!

I vaguely remember them being being really sneaky with their beta builds... maybe it's changed now, or perhaps I'm thinking of a different emulator! It's not about the Beta builds (they're public and get out every once in a while), the problem for them is sharing the SVN builds, since too many n00bs complain about the bugs when those aren't even officialy supported or released, hence their no-svn-builds-allowed-in-the-official-forums policy

In game screen shot of God Of War on the PCSX2 Emulator PCSX2 is kinda pretty old. With proper tweaking, it works great on a Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM for me :) Have fun! :)

Toxn
warwagon, can you try it with mgs3? I played up to meeting with EVA with a average of 35fps on a Pentium Dual Core 2.5ghz, 3gb ram, and 9800gt 1gb. From what I've seen its playable.
Phenom II
I have a problem - any ideas which setting is causing this? I have changed just about everything in the Video Plugin settings
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted August 12, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted August 12, 2010 Yeah, Emulation is never perfect - Burnout 3 technically works but it will never look right, the Emulator itself just doesn't support it properly. They have a list of what works and what doesn't: http://pcsx2.net/compat.php?c=key

I twill be slower than crap, but just as a test.

DDStriker
Yeah it's quite a nice emulator be sure to play with the settings you can still get nice framerates in software mode on the i7 (just set it to use 7 threads, I don't recommend setting it to 8 due to personal experiences...do so at your own risk) also depending on gpu you can get some very nice rendering speeds when configured right (I've hit over 200 FPS on a gtx 275 core i7 920 in some full 3d games e.g. dbz bt3) Not to mention you can download better video plugins i'll have to check what plugins i'm using when I get home (I wanted to create a pscx2 thread a while ago and to get everyone to post what plugins they were using and what kind of speeds they were getting on certain hardware etc, perhaps this can be that thread? :D)

DrCheese
Nice, it's much further along from when I last played with it (few years ago..) As for MGS3, it mostly works. You don't get portraits in the codec mode tho, even with the latest unoffical SVN build and plugins >.>
