Drainbamage
Hey All I have two computers, a laptop and a regular desktop machine; both are running XP professional. My problem is that whenever I try to connect them with a crossover cable I get the message "A Network Cable is Unplugged". I know that the NIC in the desktop machine is fine as I have just gone to a LAN with it. I am definately using a crossover cable and I have tried two different ones. I am fairly certain that the NIC in the Laptop is fine as it was working (connected to a switch) just before reconnecting it via crossover. All power management settings are off. Any ideas? Mysterio
and you've used either of those two x-over cables to connect anyother two computers...that's the ONLY culprit in your setup...can you visually see the inner wires making a x-cover connection?...do you have a meter to check if it indeed is a x-over cable. ceminess
go to your network connections in the control panel, and click on the icon (there should only be one) then click on support and then click on repair. and see if that helps (if you can even get that far)
Drainbamage
thanks for all your suggestions, they are appreciated. took my laptop, plugged it into a hub. Then connected it back to my desktop via crossover, same cable, nothing different or new. Same settings as before, nothing whatsoever changed in any shape or form. And it works. I dont know why, but it does, go figure. This is one of em weird things. I swear i am not making this up. I am not a total noob at setting up networks so pls dont roll your eyes and think I'm dumb. heh ah well, cheers to all who participated. Long story short. I dont know what just happened, but its all working again.
