We recently got hold of a Sony Computer Eentertainment Europe Trade Brochure for Summer 2010 and we couldnt help but notice a mention of PlayTV 2. PlayTV 2 was revealed to be in development in May but nothing has been heard of the device since. Flicking through the brochure we couldn't help but see a small paragraph relating to the device which reveals, among other things, that PlayTV 2 is set to arrive before the end of the year and will include a host of social network features. It reads as follows:

PlayTV2 (Working Title)

"The award winning PlayTV has been continually updated and enhanced with new options and features including HD viewing and recording as well as support for additional territories. Late 2010 will see the release of PlayTV2, which will be filled with new features and benfits to enrich the viewing experience. Among these will be a host of new social networking functions making PlayTV2 completely unique among personal video recorders."

Great, buy again please.

There is going to be Move 2.0 and Kinect 2.0 in a few years. Think I'll stick to the basics rather than get burned.

It's because of the format UK adopted for HD, this was known before PlayTV launched.

Surprise me with US announcement, k tx.

Why? PlayTV has only been around in Europe because presumably the broadcasting model in the US is completely different and therefore PlayTV doesn't suit it.

And there are plenty of things that Europe never gets even though the US has had it for years and years...so leave us with something to shout about :p

As mentioned, this upgrade isn't Sonys fault, it was the choice of the broadcasters utilizing different hardware decoding. Nothing Sony could do about it. I've had mine for about 2 years now and for ?60 I'm well happy with it :)

That is fine if our broadcasting is different. That doesn't mean they can't make it compatible. I will whine, because I WANT IT.
