maash
I dont think I am alone in this. PC gaming activity has jumped considerably the last 6-10 months. Microsoft just announced their first PC games in months if not years with the return of Microsoft Flight Simulator and Age of Empire Series which was deemed dead when Ensemble with dissolved. Also with a huge sales of StarCraft II and the upcoming Diablo III series. Fable 3 is now coming to PC as well after Fable 2 missed out. Capcom is also bringing Lost Planet series after a long time. Is it just me or is PC gaming making a huge come back after being put on the backburner for the last 4-5 years

Tom
I wouldn't say Diablo III is upcoming. It's going to be AGES before it's released yet.

monkey13
I was thinking about this before and couldn't decide if we were coming out of the usual summer lull or if PC gaming was having an upturn. Rebirth is a bit strong though if it is happening. I think resurgence is a better word. I don't believe the market ever went away. Some of the big publishers believed the marketing men and industry "experts" that PC gaming was dead and shifted their titles away. However the market was still there. Also people saw how much cash WoW was making and I think that can't be ignored.
Crisp
Maybe it's because Microsoft are pleased they now have a stable and worth-while operating system to boast about?
c3ntury
PC gaming has kicked back alive (imo) since 2009. Blizzards upcoming games should help cement the title.

Viper217
PC gaming is still going strong, it never died. Only difference is a few games lately have been more noticeable, especially to people who haven't been gaming in awhile.

maash
I think it might be for a couple of reasons. Mainly 1. PC games are now cheaper than they used to be 2. Steam 3. Multiplatformers are better now on PC than on consoles 4. Consoles now look dated after 5 years on the market 5. Real gamers hate the motion revolution which all 3 console makers are now pushing thus a lot of hardcores are moving back to the roots, PC gaming
MadDoggyca
And then we all die in 2012. Awesome. PCs are back baby! :D 2012 FTW its comming back due to a few reasons. Steam #1 Windows For Live #2 Blizzard.net #3 EA Manger/Store #4 UBI Soft #5 all majory players are useing tools that now (All the majory players are now forcuing you to link and then for-fit your CD-key to there own system) as well (UBI soft bad for this as well as ea on some titles. Force you to be alwazs online to be able to even play Single PLayer) SC2 is guitly for this as well... compines in the PC sector have officail cut the UsedMarket out. On top of thta not worried about piriets downlaod there titles. SC2 is a grate example of this.. sure some one mite downlaod it.. but for what SIngle player? Due to the fact there no lan support downlaoding this title is useless in a lot of ways unless your not into Mulitplaer.. then again who playes on the pc that dose not play mulitplayer? Ayepecks
Most of the stuff is just going to be console ports. :/ This is precisely why PC gaming is dead. It used to be where the PC was the lead development platform for games. And while obviously games are still made on the PC, the PC isn't what is tested first and foremost. It's the 360 and PS3 that are going to get the attention, and rightly so -- the sales there are far better, there isn't as much piracy (I don't care what anyone says, it does impact sales), and you don't have to worry about compatibility issues. It still ****es me off as a longtime PC gamer, but I own a 360 and it gets most of my attention simply for that reason now. I have simply stopped buying PC games except from developers that I'm 100% sure I can trust. Basically, for me, that means Valve. Blizzard obviously as well, since they're still PC exclusive, but I'm not too into their stuff. But other developers? I'm so tired of crappy ports. I'm so tired of them not supporting 16:10 resolutions when it is something developers can easily implement. I'm tired of HUDs being stretched instead of made at a high resolution. I'm so tired of having my mouse buttons other than the big three (left, right, scroll wheel -- and sometimes the latter isn't even supported) not working. I'm so tired of not having dedicated servers. I'm so tired of not having quick save. PC gaming is dead. You all can tout big-name games still coming to the PC, but until developers take the time on the platform (at least as much as they devote solely to the 360 and PS3), it's not coming back. You can't even trust former PC exclusive developers like Epic and iD anymore.
Jason S. Global Moderator Posted August 24, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted August 24, 2010 i think people thought PC gaming is dead b/c there were a couple Op Eds or blogs about it online. Then everyone's like "what if?" and makes their own opinion. yeah it's not as popular as consoles. i'll speak for myself, but i still do the majority of my gaming on PC. I havent played a full game on PS3 since the spring...

The PS3 is far from dead. It takes years to develop hardware. Microsoft will have started designing the 360 successor already. The only difference is that Microsoft has been quiet about it. Vice
I'm not 100% against console ports. Call of Duty MW2 for example it has some bad areas (like only P2P servers, no modding, no 3rd party maps) but it also has some good areas for instance it runs brilliantly on even dated PC hardware. Stuff from 2006-2007 can happily run the game at very nice graphical detail and that is precisely because the game was made with old consoles in mind (And the 360 and PS3 are a fair few years old now). We had to sacrifice on some standard PC features but we got a game that we didn't need to break the bank to play. You can't say the same thing about Crysis or Metro 2033. So although I'm against console ports I'm not 100% against them. I'm happy to have a console port than no game at all.
