+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted August 18, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted August 18, 2010 Announced last night during Sony's gamescom presser was its intention to bring ITV Player to the UK, while giving more details on video streaming service MUBI. Both were one of many multimedia features mentioned during the conference, with news PlayTV would also be updated, to include Play TV Live Chat, which will include Facebook integration and the ability to "recommend, share, and discover TV." The main additions though were surely that of ITV Player hitting the UK and similar services for other areas of Europe such as Yahoo Plus7 in Australia, YLE in Finland and others for Holland, Spain and German. Finally Sony provided more details on MUBI, a streaming film service with a select library of film "where quality is key." MUBI will include a forum for film fans, with community features and a social network, allowing fans to rate films, become a fan, discuss and watch trailers. The service will include independent film and foreign films, as well as providing old as well as new masterpieces. Mubi will be available in 18 countries from October. No dates yet for the other services. Source: http://www.vg247.com/2010/08/18/itv-player-and-others-heading-to-euro-psn/
Nick H. Supervisor Posted August 18, 2010 Supervisor Share Posted August 18, 2010 The one thing that annoys me at the moment is being in Switzerland and seeing the BBC iPlayer under my XMB. You can't use it (well, without using a proxy), and I assume that the same will be true for the ITV player. That's not as big a deal for me though as I don't really watch ITV. LightShadow
Hmm. They should partner with Nintendo and release it as a wii channel like the iPlayer channel released a while back. Most people have Wii's these days so it would be worthwhile. If they put ITV Player and 4OD on the Wii. I see the Wii being even better :p I wonder if Sony will charge for this, like put it on PSNplus?
Livin in a box
Oooh. Not that there's anything worth watching on ITV anyway.

I don't think Sony will charge for it. People can already access these services (BBC iPlayer, ITV player and 4OD) online for free, so charging for them on the PS3 wouldn't make much sense. Besides, the BBC iPlayer on the PS3 is free to use. You just need to be in the UK to use it :(
Bhav
I wonder if Sony will charge for this, like put it on PSNplus? I doubt it. It wouldn't entice anyone to subscribe to PS Plus in my opinion, since it's not a premium service like Sky would be (for example).
