XSI Discontiuned

Recommended Posts

So searching around awhile ago I found out that the Cannon XSI has been discontinued last year. Does anyone know why? Why didn't the XI get discontinued first? It's been out longer.

If someone was out after an XSI what choices do they have now? Either XS, or a huge price jump to a T1i/T2i...

Meanwhile Nikon has that 10mp Nikon D3000 for $449 at amazon.

Although some people say the D3000 sucks.

Edit: I just found out that they are bringing out a Nikon D3100

http://gadgetwise.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/20/nikon-improves-its-entry-level-d-s-l-r/

maybe it will lower the price of D3000 for people?

Really? since when?

Edit: Just found that out. So is the 3100 to replace both the 3000 and 5000?

Yup. D90 replacement should be here within the month, too.

They discontinued the XSI and not the XS because the XS belongs to a market segment which still does not have a successor while the XSI has had 2 successors:

There al links to the timelines from all other manufacturers there.

not from the results I have seen. do you have some visual examples?

infact I have read in a lot of places that the XSI high ISO performance is better than both T1i and T2i

Is buying a "discontinued" camera good though? If it messes up will they fix it?

The Nikon D3100 looks promising from the reviews. I may very well wait. Amazon has it listed for $699 no tax and with free shipping.

They have the T1i for the exact same price.

They should still honor the warranty even if it's expired. I haven't read the D3100 reviews yet though.
