Best 40" TV?

Recommended Posts

Nerve    0

Can anyone recommend a cheap LCD/Plasma TV, 40" at least.

I don't have a huge budget, around ?500.

I've been looking around but they are all brands that aren't very big and I don't know if they are reliable or not :(

I really like my 40" Sony Bravia. I paid 734$CDN for it a few months back. Awesome TV. Samsung, Sony, Sharp all have kick a$$ LCD TVs.

wtf sharp... that's in the low-mid segment. samsung is king as far as price/performance standpoint.

on a budget, i highly recommend LG!!

samsung for midrange, they are one of the greatest LCD makers!

sony is awesome, but you have to pay.

i bought a few budget to mid range LCD tvs. cheapest ones were LGs - and i still liked them a lot.

one of them was sharp and i loved it too. and one was samsung, but it was for a killer deal.

since i am not in UK, i do not know what deals you have there.

PS.

did you consider slightly used? i know people who got top range stuff for same price then the ********* models, and the TV was 1.5 year old only. it worked perfectly.

it was like night and day in comparison to the new products (i think it was sony)

from the site i'd say look at these models:

http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/621242/SAMSUNG-PS42C450 <------- if your realistically going for the lg, go for this instead.

http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/617105/PANASONIC-TX-P42X20B <------- if your realistically going for the lg, go for this instead.

Both of these plasmas are way better than the lg. i personally prefer the pana but you'd want to check instore. From what ive seen, the samsung plays sd sources better whereas the pana plays hd sources better(PQ wise).

http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/628611/SAMSUNG-LE40C530 <----the only decent lcd in your size and budget.

if it matters to you, the lcd is 1080p(1920*1080 and the plasmas is 720p(1024*768).

mind im not in your country, but i have seen the equiv's in my country(same model numbers here).

http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/product/46519/review/ln46a630.html

I got the 55' version of this one, and I am very very pleased. They list some faults of ghosting and distortion, but I have yet to see anything like that on mine. It may be because I tuned all the tv settings using software on the computer to make sure all levels were correct for color and lighting.

The image is unbelievably clear and crisp. Watching Blue Planet 1080p is like looking through a little window and having a whole other world on the outside.

The 120hz options are fantastic, reduce blur and jitter, and can make some movies appear almost 3D.

I have actually been blinded a little by the light coming off of this TV in rockband when strobes go off. Whites are white, blacks are black.

It might be a little out of your price range, but well worth it.

Surely if you want a 40" TV you at least want one that displays 1080p?! Most of the above plasmas are all either 1024x768 or 1366x768.

Anyways, I bought my Samsung 40" LCD 1080p 2 years ago and it's been perfect for me.

My bad, I had the model number all wrong. It's the Samsung Series 6 630 LN55C630.

http://www.abt.com/product/45017/Samsung-LN55C630.html

http://reviews.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/samsung-lcd-tv/samsung-ln55c630.html

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-E3BJgcYgTRR/p_30555C630/Samsung-LN55C630.html

And I think this users review is spot on:

" "Amazing picture quality" by mudwrx on June 11, 2010

Pros: Picture quality, menu functions, looks good

Cons: still trying to determine if the auto motion plus is a good thing or not

Summary: I've had two 46" Samsung LCDs before this and have always been happy with them. I was looking for a larger screen size than a 55" but when I saw this tv in the store, and for under $1500, I could not pass it up.

When I connected the tv (I have FIOS) and turned on the first HD program I was in shock. The HD on my 46" Samsung (probably between 2 and 3 years old now) has always looked good but I had no idea how much the newer technology made a difference.

The 46" HD looks very good but there is no comparison to the LN55c630. The HD on this set looks truly amazing. If I did not know any better I would swear I was watching a 3d tv minus the glasses. The characters in the shows look like they are in the room with me. There is a sense of depth that I simply never seen before on any other tv. If I had one word to describe it I would use stunning.

I just received my surround sound equipment today and look forward to having my first "movie night" and Rock Band party with the new system.

Great tv, if you have not seen true HD on a newer set lately this will blow you away (plus it was cheap!). "

When they say 3d tv, it is almost true. Depending on how good of quality the video is, it seems like things can just come out or you could just go into them. Was watching Planet Earth or whatever that 1080p HD BBC show is called, and just WOW. It was like I had a portal to nature in my living room, and some parts you almost wanted to just jump into the screen and play with the animals. Had a friend who had the collection on DVD, and while watching it on mine, he just kept saying, "Damn, I couldn't tell what a lot of this was" and ," you can see the air!" lol.

Hmm..

What about this, it's on offer aswell

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-ps50c450b-50-hd-ready-plasma-tv-04906498-pdt.html - SAMSUNG PLASMA

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/lg-42ld450-42-full-hd-lcd-tv-04877700-pdt.html - LG LCD

which would you say? is it true Plasmas are less reliable and won't last as long? OFFER ENDS WED :(

but are either of these two any good? the only thing that determines what I buy is the size usually :pinch:

The samsung plasma is pretty good, but the LG is not that great, at least for what you can get for that price.

I agree with Sony Bravia but Sharp????? Are you serious???? Vizio is better than Sharp.

yea, ive seen this model in shop and i was surprised at how good it was, it looked alot better than the led equivalent.

but are either of these two any good? the only thing that determines what I buy is the size usually :pinch:

the samsung plasma is just a bigger size of the one i posted so i guess my earlier comment still stands.

for the lcd try and get the samsung 5 series series in your budget. i dont think there are any sony's in your budget. from personal experience, i hate lg but that tv is very cheap.

for your budget these look like the best tv's but you should really look in store at what they look like considering they all similar in price.
