0 Samoa
Ahh you made me do it.http://www.sald.com/tests.html 96.32% to NAV's 99.95 (althought this test looks like BS as all AV programs get over 90%. There's other tests on that page but they're all Virus Bulliten tests which leads us here: http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/pro...cts.xml?avg.xml Here it has a historically craptacular 2 passes out of 21 tries. Quit possibly the worst record of them all. http://www.hackfix.org/miscfix/icons-av-A_M.shtml This is a trojan test. Granted AVG isn't a trojan scanner but I doubt most of you have a trojan scanner so it'd be nice if AVG protected you somewhat from them. 64% compared to NAV's 95% http://trojaner-info.de/test_07_2001_kaumtrojan.shtml Another trojan test thats unfortunately down ATM. 8.63% compared to NAV's 32% http://agn-www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/v.../vtc/naveng.htm Fairly outdated. I wanted to link thier newest test but they didn't test AVG. Rest assured though AVG gets beaten in all tests by NAV in this one above though. Then there's the trivial things like checkmark certifications which really mean jack, but hey, AVG aint got 'em. But anyways, virus wise it's fairly close enough but it is horribly beaten when it comes to detecting trojans by pretty much everyone. I never found a good worm test, I doubt there is one, but consider how many trojans there are now. Shoot, a quick look in any forum shows almost the same amount of trojan infections as virus infections. I would like to have linked to more tests but AVG doesn't get compared as much to other AV programs in real tests(not the dumb test where some idiot reviewer rants about which one looks the prittiest and installs the fastest). It may be close to being a good virus scanner but it still falls behind all the major AV products, and throw in trojans and AVG completely loses. macodin, you put some work into that post there. Most of the information is outdated, and hardly reliable. Just look at the top of this test history: History June 2003: Windows XP Professional Status: PASS Product name: Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus System 6.0.478 275 More: June 2003 in full from the top of http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/pro...cts.xml?avg.xml What do you have against AVG? I know you like your AV, but please this is ridiculus. False data doesn't make your position any stronger.

I know you like your AV, but please this is ridiculus. False data doesn't make your position any stronger. Well I can't do much unless they decide to send me thier wild and zoo list. But notice I didn't say AVG *failed* all V bulliten testing, I said it had one of the worst records of them all which it does. So it passed twice out of 21 times, thats hardly a decent record. So I don't know how the data was false. And I would love for thier to be a new in depth test every month so I could constantly update my posts with them but I can't. Plus if you get the Viirus bulliten magazine you can actually see the whole test. And I don't have a favorite anti-virus, I didn't mean to pimp NAV in the last post, I just needed a consistant vendor to compare AVG to. It wouldn't make sense for me to compare AVG to say Mcafee in one test, the NOD32 in another test. So I chose to go AVG vs Norton. But I do dislike AVG because it is inferior to nearly every single AV product out there for total protection. Doesn't matter if you pit it against kaspersky, Nod32, Mcafee, Symantec, Sophos, Trend Micro, it loses against every one consistintly, so when someone is willing and looking for a good deal on a solid anti virus product, I find it counter productive to then recommend them an inferior free one., Now if the post was different and they asked what the best free anti virus was for them then it's a different story, and I wouldn't pimp a pay anti virus. I understand free AV has it's uses it's just silly to recommend it over a full featured and more qualified pay one when the poster is willing to buy.
