maash
I have never played a GT game so I would know the context so I would like to know what makes GT5 such a hyped game especially when a lot of multiplatform racing games and exclusives like Forza 3 have been rated so highly. How is it from the previews that it is thought to be STILL the holy grail. This is a question raise because along with my 360 I am looking to buy a PS3 this fall

HawkMan
Nothing, it was just the first game to mix casual driving with sim like driving. why it's being compared to Forza I don't know. While GT5 has been sim geared, it's always edged on the arcad side, choosing fun over sim if there's an "either or" situation. while Forza, is pretty much completely geared to the sim edge. the only similarity is that they both use real world super sport cars, and are sims or sim lite games. and they're both graphics focused with high amounts of real world exotic cars. But as actual "games" they're not directly comparable outside of being driving games.
Sethos
Because the GT series is the most elaborate, fun and complete racing experience - It's the only racing game(s) I ever manage to stick with.

Especially with Forza 3, Turn 10 has taken a huge shift towards appeasing the casual racing fans (with features like rewinding, auto-braking, massive stability controls, etc.). I like Forza, but Gran Turismo has always been the more hardcore of the two in my eyes (lack of vehicular damage in previous installments notwithstanding). sn00pie
Forza isn't a sim, are you kidding, it attempts to be one but anyone who's played a GT game realizes that there is no comparison when it comes to the physics and handling model...and the graphics, sound quality, gameplay, I could go on for days :p

Adding fucntiosn on top of the simulation engine doesn't make it arcade or casual, it just means it's not limiting it's target to sim drivers. the sim engine for Forza has always been several steps above that of GT though. GT is a sim lite. it's NOT a realistic sim, it's semi realistic. GT has never been a hardcore sim. put hardcore sim races between Forza set to the hardest settings and GT set to most realistic and see which one they think is the most realistic. GT just doesn't measure up on that scale. GT is and always has been a Fun sim racer. Forza on the other hand is a game that peopel who don't want to seriously race usually tire of, it's not designed to be a fun racer, it is however designed to let the casual person enjoy the game without needing to train for weeks on end first. and then scale up. in the end whatever helpers you turn on, it's the same simulation engine powering the actual racing, a sim engine that puts anything GT has shown to shame. the only game that even compares it GTR on the PC. Race Pro 09 on the 360 is actually a better sim than Forza for actual racing physics. However, Race Pro pales in comparison for features....in a land slide. PD stated that the most recent GT Academy was displaying their physics engine, which isn't comparable still. Maybe it has been improved for the November release. We hope so. HawkMan
YEah, I see the likelihood of them changing the entire game and upset their existing huge fanbase by releasing an entirely different highly likely FYI, that's sarcasm. and so far indications are that while it's a good game, it's no hardcore sim game. which is as expected since the series never was. Ironman273
alright bud, we get it, you love forza even though Gran Turismo is known to be THE racing sim. GT never had much competition until Forza came around, and with that specifically with Forza 3. There are people that get on to something when it's good and insist it's always the best, without taking into account new products that enter the market and may surpass them. Case in point, look at browsers, smartphones, OSs, etc. I posted in Neobahn a comparison between an M3 and a Mustang GT that Motor Trend did. Guess what? The Mustang beat the M3 (barely). I would've never believed that. People say the M3 is THE sports car. Yet facts show otherwise. Does that mean the M3 is worthless and it won't sell anymore? Absolutely not, but just saying something or going by past accolades doesn't make the current situation so. Yes, GT5 will be released in a couple months so no one can say with 100% certainty but we can make educated guesses based on currents facts, like HawkMan is doing. Your only support is your statement above, which in other words is nothing.

Plus the fact GT has a crapload more cars, cuxtomization options, license tests to get you to drive like a real driver, it was still a better sim game. I'm not saying forza 3 sucked, it was a good game, but the way the time trial demo that came out handled (physics wise) a lot better and smoother then the 370z in forza did. Forza's visual modifications alone trumped any customization that GT has had. The reason I jumped from GT3 to Forza 2 was because of said customization. You can tune your car, modify it (inside and out), paint it with an entirely custom decal. I have yet to see this level of detail in GT's custom options. Ironman273
I realize we're dealing with opinions here. Like the other examples I posted, things like this are subjective. I just felt HawkMan was making the case for his opinions a little better than just because "Sony marketing told me so." That being said, I have read that Forza 3's driving dynamics are more realistic, taking everything into consideration. In fact, most of the kudos to GT are on how good it looks, which there's no denying. However, that brings up another point. Yes, the photomode in GT5 is spectacular and the replays look great but all the in game videos I've seen so far look pretty much the same as Forza. So if gameplay looks like Forza and the driving mechanics appear better, it would seem Forza is the more realistic sim. Then you can toss up beautful photo mode vs. customization, but those aren't about how the car drives.
