Gaming-Girls real or not ?

Recommended Posts

my 8 year old daughter plays COD4, World at War, and BC2

Why would you let an 8 year old play those games ? and why are you bragging about it on the internet ?

I'm kind of turned off how girl gamers are made into a big deal (I'm guilty of this as well). I wish more girls played Halo

Now that I've caught up...

I've never actually met 1 hardcore gamer girl in my life (going by my definition of what hardcore means).

Typically the only girl gamers I know are Final Fantasy fans, more because of the anime/Japanese style - rather than anything specific to RPG's themselves.

The rest have either dated a gamer or have brothers who game and have then dabbled in some sort of platforming or racing games. So either to try and share an interest with their boyfriends and don't really have an interest in gaming itself or something to do for 5 mins if they catch sight of someone else playing.

The night I find a hardcore gamer girl lined up outside GAME for a midnight console release/Halo game is the night I fall in love

that' happens in every facet of the net, and in irl as well, no matter what your age or occupation.

Yes, if you build those relationships, you're absolutely right. I have no argument there. In real life, building relationships with other people and encountering some sort of drama in those relationships is virtually unavoidable and necessary in order to function as a member of any society. That's basically the case in forums and chatrooms online, as well.

When it comes to gaming, though, I see no place or need for it. And I prefer to avoid it. And believe it or not, it's pretty easily avoidable.

well games are becoming more and more social as time progresses. and multiplayer is becoming the focus of games content to a greater degree than every before. unless you play totally alone and not evenwith a boyfriend and never online or at least not ont eh same server twice you are never going to escape online/gaming drama.

at least in games it's easier to walk away and take a break if the drama gets to be too much. more so than the rest of the internet even. it's also easier to start over in a game in a new server a new game a new community.

My girlfriend plays games like Left 4 Dead....

I think that's what your trying to find out, but heck knows with that grammar and spelling.

Grammar and spelling? Take a look at your spelling!

I think you'll find the word you were after is "you're" as in "you are trying to find out", rather than "your" as in "your spelling is bad."

+1

A "Gamer" is someone who enjoys playing computer games, regardless of genre...

I'm happy to have married a Gamer-Girl! :)

Is playing Solitaire and Minesweeper a lot being a gamer? .... just wondering.... :)

I completely agree that games are becoming more and more social, and that multiplayer is becoming more of a focus. But there's a difference between interacting with complete strangers in an online game, and getting to know and building relationships with those strangers.

Here's an example: I play alone 75% of the time. The other 25%, I play with my boyfriend. When I do play with him, we're either on the same console, or on two different consoles or PCs but in the same house (we're complete dorks, I know). At that point, it's a social interaction between me and a real-life partner and has nothing to do with virtual relationships or social interaction. Very rarely, I'll play with real-life friends, but even that I tend to avoid after a certain experience some years ago.

When I play multiplayer alone on consoles (generally FPS games), it's in the kind of games in which each 5-15 minute session can be played with an entirely new set of people. Even in a game like Borderlands, I played the entire game alone or with my boyfriend twice, and still thoroughly enjoyed it.

In Steam games, I do indeed switch between different servers every time and never socially interact much, anyways.

When I dabbled in WoW for a couple months, I played on a huge server and I never joined a guild; though I realize that would have changed the dynamics of the entire game for me. If I required anyone's help, I would get it, thank them, and move on.

It's easy to interact in the more social games without any of the drama. I'm certainly not saying that everyone should play the game this way; only that for me, it makes it more enjoyable to avoid all of the complicated and overdramatic bull**** all together.

when i gave my 10 year old brother a copy of hl2 a few years ago i asked my dad if it was ok first. i was kinda surprised when he said yeah, but then i was playing doom on his pc at age 12 so..

i wouldn't let my own kid under say 15 play online in an mmo or even an fps i think though. and at that age i'd let down and talk to them about it. not that i'd be a very good parent or set a good example myself otherwise.

I exist? I must say I don't know any girls personally that love to play games as much as me. I play a little of everything! I've always loved gaming, its how I relax. So I just hang with my bf and his guy friends. Going to lans, playing Halo, GoW etc.

My steam account is just so full of lovely games :D <3

edit: I can't stand WoW & final fantasy either. Boringness. Fast paced gun fire ftw :)

IMHO most "gamer-girls" play online pose as guys. And most of those playing online who say they are girls, are really guys.

Pretty much true.

I like playing female characters because I'm a homophobe and don't like

staring at the ass of a dude. It actually works, too, because I sound like

Justin Beiber and everyone assumes I'm a girl anyhow.

Oh gaming girls exist... they usually have something like "gurl" "girly" "chick" attached to their nick to let everyone know they are female.
