PS3 Firmware 3.42 mandatory update available now

Me? You quoted me...

I know it's not a LONG time, but it just bugs me. Sure fine, don't let me buy from the store or whatever, I can follow that logic. But I have not modded my PS3, I just wanna pop a disk in and play...

No not you, Fubar had said that no one had mentioned the time it takes to update in the thread until I had, I was just quoting your post as it was mentioning the annoyances of constant updates.

Blast him? no just giving him my opinion, welcome to the internets enjoy your stay.

And I guess it is necessary for everyone to give their opinions in the excessively rude manner that you did? give me a break.

Don't you know? When miles away behind a keyboard, it's the done thing to be rude and dismissive, possibly a little arrogant - and call it "Simply voicing your opinion"...

People made that same argument with the old Xbox, and a huge homebrew scene ended up appearing.

My point was, people like MS Pandya always jump to the assumption of piracy and make it their duty to appoint themselves as the Internet's moral guardians, when in fact what people choose to do with their own hardware is none of their business.

+100, I still use XBMC for my media center. This awesome media program was brought to me by homebrew. Even though the support for the original Xbox is gone in XBMC it still lives on after all these years and I run it on a very old PC, and it runs great. There is no piracy, or copied games going on, just a group of people that like to program and develop awesome software. Sony just doesn't want anyone to do anything on THEIR equipment without putting some money in their pocket.

The funniest thing is when they're so vocal with all these posts (in various related topics) yet mysteriously disappear when called out. Later he'll come in and say he went offline or that a particular post was too stupid to comment on.

Considering I mainly bought my PS3 as a BR player, having XBMC running on it would be the holy grail for me...

And it's lent itself to some real world products like Boxee and their Boxee Box (Y)

Homebrew is full of win.

Homebrew is good as a whole, but it's clear that a lot of people will use it to pirate games. I know a number of people on this forum are guilty of this.

Careful, or do you want to be ridiculed as part of the 'Piracy Police'?

I don't care what people think! I understand that a few people will give something back to the community, but 98% will just use it to pirate games. If you want to do that then fine, but don't moan when a company tries to protect itself. I'm sure if someone was stealing your work you would do the same.

I know and I agree with you. Just saying because of some posts in this thread... you have to chuckle at the way some people try to justify jailbreaking.

Do forgive me but i had to go pick up my son from school, some of us do have lives off the internet ;) i wasn't trying to be rude or arrogant i was just stating my opinion not my fault you read it in certain ways in your head, but if i did come across the above the i do apologies, some people on here though do tend to whinge for no reason what so ever and seem to want something for nothing these days, the bottom line is hacking the ps3 IS breaking the TOS no matter what its used for, whinging because the blocked it or having to update again is pretty silly.

The Piracy Police can buy me a chicken sandwich. They owe us one anyway.

We/I know half this board pirates on/has pirated on the 360/PC, so really, none of the regulars around here can hide behind curtains

I have not modded my PS3 or X360. I have modded my Wii to run off an external hard drive, I have copied all my games onto (except some weird Broadway Dancing game my wife bought) - it contains no games that I don't own.

I modded all my Xbox originals - purely for XBMC, I have not got any copied games except those that were sent to me with an eBay purchased Xbox (which have sat in the box it shipped in).

I modded my PSP purely so I didn't have to carry UMDs all the time, no other reason.

I modded my DS-Lite for the same reason as well as to stick a few cartoons on.

People acting like modding is purely for piracy is BS.

Dumb question,

I only have 1 friend with a PS3 and I've hardly played with a PS3 since it's release.

But can you play games if you don't have internet access (single player ones) or how do you get forced on updating if you don't play multi-player games? Forget about all the fancy extra online features, but in a nutshell can you still play them?

Wow, so a user comes in this thread and basically says "he doesn't like it so he won't use it" and you blast him for it, then your advice is "don't like it don't use it?" Sounds about right for the Sony shills around here.

You took the words right out of my mouth Ironman. +1
