Timan Veteran Posted July 23, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 23, 2003 Is it possible and if it is, how? I have two computers in my house, and I want to print off my machine and use the printer in the other room, but I'm on cable internet and the other machine is on dailup, is there a way I can print off of it like buy typing in an IP of that comp and it just work like that, so I dont need no cords running through the house just to print... Thanks

MitchShrader
You need connectivity to the printer from both computers to print from both computers. To print from (comp 2, dialup) while using (comp 1, cable) you must have the computers networked. Networking without wires is *wireless networking*. You can set up simple networking with cat5e (wires running thru house) for the lowest cost, or ( IF: there are available PCI slots and you are willing to make the investment) both computers on a wireless router. Possibly with the wireless router you would find it unnecessary to maintain the dialup connection. It is not a 'one solution' problem as budget and necessary functions and technical expertise and capabilities of current hardware/software ALL affect the optimum answer. Strongly recommend you get an experienced friend with recent history of setting up small network to examine all components. Getting what you want is easy. Getting it the First Try, for the Lowest Cost, and making 0 mistakes during the learning process is NOT easy. Good Luck!
Timan Veteran Posted July 24, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted July 24, 2003 so there is no way like i can run a print server or something and print remotely? :(
leachus2002
No, I am afraid you can't because your **Cable Internet PC** won't recognise that there is a printer on the other machine
Timan Veteran Posted July 24, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted July 24, 2003 well i know it wont detect one, but i'm almost certain you can do remote printing, i remember setting it up in school... :s guess no one knows as usual :(
PCKing
In school you more than likely had a LAN to do that job... which is what you will have if you connect the 2 computers together somehow...
