evilecho
hi all i got a question... when a person gets banned from xbox live for using a modchip..... is it the xbox it self that is banned or is it the gammer tag.... thankx
Ash
I'm not sure, but what I heard is that you buy the adapter, you get a serial number to register to the live service with so I think your xbox is still good, but you have to replace the broadband thing... tho I dunno, I don't have xbox or anythign, its just i recall someone saying that how they ban you. .....
The xbox is banned, you can still use your gamertag on another xbox.
divinatum
your box gets banned, only way around it is to get some kind of a replcement chip for the mainboard of the xbox, and solder it on... do a search on the xbox-scene forums.
.KICK
It just bans your xbox and not your gamertag, how stupid is that :|
CloudEngineer
Its not stupid its logical to microsoft. Not to us though :(
+BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted July 24, 2003 Subscriber¹ Share Posted July 24, 2003 Its logical to M$ as you have to go and buy a new xbox :) unless you do a search as mentioned above, however that method is very difficult (the replacing of the chip, not the searching :)). Easier just to buy a new console.
Groovedude
There are sites that sell Xbox parts like Bios Chips, Motherboard. Try Google. Here is a UK site with some replacement parts. http://www.premodded.34sp.com/default.php?cPath=
BroChaos Veteran Posted July 24, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 24, 2003 it's the unique id located in the EEPROM that gets banned. you can switch your eeprom with someone who doesn't play live, and you'll be all set to go again.
Roger H. Veteran Posted July 24, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 24, 2003 The xbox is banned, you can still use your gamertag on another xbox. that don't make much sense... the xbox should be able to still go online.. what if you sell it? That other person can't go? I think they block that account which is basically your gamertag that's associated with the key you put in when you bought the XB lIve kit. Briandl79
Yes it's the EEPROM that gets banned, they are replaceable and you can usually find them for about 10.00 or free. They are also fairly easy to change as there are programs for that.

DanM602
When your XBOX gets banned from Live! your system serial number gets banned from the MS Servers so changing IPs, Gamertags, ect. will not work. You either need a new EEPROM or one of the many programs available in the usual places to change the system serial number. The only thing is you have to becareful of this because reason 1. You don't want to pick another serial number that is banned. 2. You don't want to pick the serial number of someone else's XBOX that is on Live! because as far as I hear you can't have 2 of the same serials on at the sametime. Don't ask me where to get these programs because I will not tell you but the process of changing it is very easy.

Timan Veteran Posted July 25, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 25, 2003 yea your gamertag will still work if your box get banned, cause if they blocked the gamertags all people have to do is add your gamertag in the live setup and guess the password i mean there are only so many variations for up down left right. kombolcha
besides the replacement of the xbox and replacing the chip.... what's the point if your xbox gets banned and you go through the hassle of getting another one and get it banned again? i'm assuming that it will be modded again.. for whatever reasons you modded it in the first place.
